I wish it was. It looks like a wire hanger. The stock has two holes that it slides into. I have seen Youtube videos where the wood cracks at that spot. It isnt a very well thought out affair
The cool thing it that is has a pistol grip on the forestock

I think so. there wasnt a lot made and most went to RTOs in Airborne units.
I wish he would sell me his “Tanker Garand”A shorten version on the full size Garand. But he isnt going to part with that one

My first gun was a universal carbine.
I still have it and it still shoots fine.
I paid $150 brand new.
I checked it for firing out of breach and it’s fine
Yorlick803, if that is a universal you still have a good deal, but they aren’t 100% parts swappable with GI M1 carbines and there was a time that they were made when they could fire out of breach.
Universal fixed the problem but they never recovered from law suits.
Iver Johnhson carried on and now I believe Auto ordnance is the existing core of the old Universal co
