Man Subdued After Disrupting Flight To Chicago
May 9, 2011 6:15 AM
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS) Flight attendants had to subdue a man on a flight from Chicago to San Francisco overnight, after he began shouting and banging on the cockpit door.
This was the second flight disruption incident involving a flight to or from Chicago in a period of 24 hours.
LISTEN: KCBS-AM/San Franciscos Megan Goldsby reports
In the latest incident, the man, who carries a Yemeni passport, was shouting unintelligibly as he banged on the door on American Airlines Flight 1561.
San Francisco Police Sgt. Michael Rodriguez said the flight was 20 minutes away from landing when the incident happened.
A passenger onboard that flight actually grabbed onto the door and began yelling, Rodriguez said.
He was wrestled to the ground by two passengers and flight attendants, and places in plastic handcuffs.
The man is identified as Rageit Almursi, 28.
He was put on a stretcher and taken through the San Francisco International Airport, and into custody. He is being held in the San Mateo County, Calif., Jail, and faces federal charges.
The plane landed safely around 9 p.m. Sunday. None of the 162 passengers was hurt.
The incident happened less than 12 hours after another unruly passenger was arrested on a flight to Chicago as he tried to open a plane door during the flight.
That flight, Continental Airlines No. 456, took off from Houston around 11:45 a.m. Sunday. In mid-flight, the passenger got out of his seat and said he had to get off the plane.
Then he tried to open the plane door.
Several passengers were able to subdue the 34-year-old man, who was from southwest suburban Burbank. The plane was diverted to Lambert International Airport in St. Louis before continuing to Chicago.
> Should pilots be able to remove passengers because of
> their appearance?
The Captain of a ship is more than just a “pilot”.
The captain is the ultimate legal authority on his ship. He can eject any passenger for any reason at any time.
I wanted to check on Continental flight 456 to get some detail....according to Google News....there is no news....didn’t happen....weird, huh?
The News Speak Disgronificator says "shouting unintelligibly" = "Allah Akhbar."
which is crazier- the yoots from yemen or from burbank...
“arab agoraphobia”
they just GOT to open the plane doors in flight, we should be culturally understanding
Hey...let’s not be insensitive here. Why, the word “Exit” may mean restroom in Farsi or Urdu. Clearly, the flight attendant was overreacting.
Since our government is more concerned with political correctness than with protecting American citizens from terrorists, I’ve decided to stop flying. Articles like this one confirm my decision.
This is the other one, Houston-to-Chicago flight. No name is given in this article, but we can start a pool to see if it's terrorist jihadi middle-eastern.
Terror-Filled Flight To Chicago Diverted To St. Louis

CHICAGO (CBS) A flight from Houston to Chicago was diverted to St. Louis on Sunday after an unruly passenger, described as a 34-year-old Burbank, Ill. man, tried to open a plane door during the flight.
Continental Airlines Flight No. 456 left Houston around 11:45 a.m. and in mid-flight, the passenger became unruly and tried to open a door in the jets first-class section, officials and witnesses said. Lambert International Airport spokesman Jeff Lea in St. Louis said the man said he had to get off the plane.
Passenger Sara Olkon of Chicago said the trouble began when a scream erupted from first class.
I assumed the worst, that it was some sort of terrorist attack, she told CBS 2s Mike Puccinelli.
Other passengers rushed to action. Witnesses say the men tackled the suspect and pinned him to the floor.
If these men hadnt been on the plane, maybe I wouldnt be here now, one passenger said.
The flight crew contacted law enforcement officials and the plane was diverted to St. Louis, according to a Continental airlines spokesperson.
The flight landed at about 1:30 p.m. at Lambert International Airport and the passenger was taken into custody. The plane was on the ground for less than an hour before it left for Chicagos OHare International Airport, a spokesperson said.
The FBI says the incident doesnt appear terrorism-related. Federal officials were mulling charges against the man, whom Lea identified as a 34-year-old man from Burbank.
The flight landed at OHare at about 3:30 p.m., according to the airline.
Aviation experts say its impossible to open a door during flight because of pressurized air in the cabin. That didnt stop passengers from being terrified. Some insisted on getting off the plane in St. Louis before it continued on to OHare Airport.
I dont think Ive ever been that scared. I thought this could be it, said Olkon, a former Chicago Tribune reporter once embedded with the U.S. military in Iraq.

Title seems to be wrong, flight was FROM Chicago
“Federal officials were mulling charges against the man, whom Lea identified as a 34-year-old man from Burbank.”
Burbank, Illinois
No coincidence that there is a significant arab population in Burbank and nearby Bridgeview, Illinois.

A cluster of 4 incidents:
The Continental Exterior Door-banger, diverted to Houston.
The AA Cockpit Door-banger, diverted to St. Louis.
The Note-in-the-Lavatory flight, diverted to Albuquerque.
The ASA pilot’s refusal to allow 2 mullahs to board in Nashville.
In one of these stories, passengers religion was mentioned, profusely.
The Continental flight investigators are still withholding the man’s name, a 34-year-old form Burbank CA. (Yes, you guessed correctly, as a percentage of population, Burbank has the highest percentage of Arabic-speakers of any city in California).
Thank you...there waas another report that said “California,” but you are correct. What is it about the name “Burbank” that draws muslims?
I’m actually more familiar with Burbank, Illinois, and was actually in the offices of the Holy Land Foundation on business once, not knowing anything at the time about who they were. Lots of angry anti-Israel posters in their basement.
They had “contribution boxes” printed up by some outfit in Milwaukee. They had thousands of these on a skid.
A couple months later I heard they were busted for sending cash to terrorists.
"None of the 162 passengers was hurt."
That's what you get when the primary job requirement is a leftist point of view.
“percentage of Arabic-speakers of any city in California)”
Wrong state.
Burbank, Illinois not Burbank, Calif.
(Of course, if he flew from Aden to Mexico City, he could have simply taken a bus to the border and walked across with the Mexicans and Central Americans. Another reason to seal the Border)
“Thank you...there waas another report that said California, but you are correct. What is it about the name Burbank that draws muslims?”
