The original purposes of taxes was to provide funds for public services - fire, police, etc. This concept was applied from the municipal to the Federal level.

Now, taxes are being used to force changes in personal behavior. The list of this foolishness starts in California and spreads to New York.

Remember this folks, when they taxed tobacco and no one complained the politicians took this as a green light to use similar tactics on other “threats” to the general well being.

I've been saying the same thing since the mid '80s when the war on smokers first got into high gear. I wanted to be wrong (but I knew I wasn't).
