The spillway has some 150 gates if I remember correctly which can be opened individually as needed to keep the River down stream flow from exceeding the target number.

A note on the 37 flood ~ my mother remembers the refugees that came North into India to escape the water. They sent Paducah people as far away as Indianapolis.

Just a huge flood of people popped out of there.
