A Gwinnett County woman shot and killed an intruder Wednesday morning.

According to police, the 53-year-old woman was in the shower when the man broke into her home on E. Mount Tabor Circle.

The intruder went into the bathroom with a kitchen knife and attempted to assault the woman, according to police. The woman fell in the shower and hit her attacker with the shower rod.

Police said the intruder forced the woman into the bedroom where where its believed he was going to sexually assault her.

The victim was able to retrieve her .22 cal. pistol and shoot the attacker multiple times.

The man ran into the backyard and collapsed, police said. He was taken to a local hospital where he died.

Women who live nearby said that the intruder got what he deserved.

“I know she did the right thing and I’m glad it ended up that way,” said Gina Brown, a neighbor. "Better that he got it than she got it,” Brown said.

“I’m a good Christian woman, but I’d do the same thing,” Marsha Day, another neighbor said.

The victim was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in Duluth with minor injuries and is expected to be okay.

She is not expected to be charged.

“We have absolutely no problem with any civilian defending themselves (against) any kind of deadly threat such as this," said Cpl. Edwin, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department.

This is obviously not possible, since all of the gun control advocates say that an assailant will just take your gun away from you and use it on you. Hey liberals next time you vote Democrat, remember what happened here and think that you and your representatives would like to prevent this. The police did not protect her. Although no doubt traumatized, she survived and the jerk didn't

My sole advice...get a larger caliber gun...you want no one on the plantiff stand in some lawyer induced suit against you.

I really feel for this woman, what she went through and will have to live with for the future. Well done madam, prayers to you and your family. A little larger caliber please so perps have no chance to stumble off or survive.

Note that the perp will not be identified until today. With five SS cards on him no doubt they are having to use the moneygram and phonecard in his pocket to track down family. They must be proud.

A .22 wouldn’t be my first choice either, but maybe she had small hands and weak wrists and didn’t want to deal with the recoil of a larger caliber. Nevertheless, what she had apparently got the job done. The best gun to use is the one you have.

Happy endings always make me weep a little.

Sounds like some solid gun control, here!

Nice shooting, Ma’am!

Frankly, it’s nice to hear someone say that. Too many law enforcement give disclaimers and warnings, if not “investigate” the victim’s actions.

In this case the smaller gun was the best, at least the POS got to hurt for a little while.

Holy Cow!!! No lamenting about the possibility of the crook grabbing the gun? No pious reminders that citizens should leave such things to the police?

Golly! What a breath of fresh air!

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

In MA, IL, NJ, RI, MD or NY the headline would read "Woman Charged in Shooting Death - Victim Dies from Multiple Wounds."

And the quote would be from CPL Himmler of the NYC Police. "We can't have citizens taking the law into their own hands. We take illegal firearm possession very seriously." And the bulk of the people reading the story there would think, yes throw the book at her - that's what she gets for having a gun.

Maybe I was a bit harsh, it just seemed a tad disingenuous. Smacks of degrees of threats that they would not accept.

My sole advice...

My sole advice is to quit the armchair QB bitching on these self-defense threads.

It happens on every thread, FReepers bloviating about what type of caliber the victim should have used or where she should have aimed.

Yeah, I want one too!

Unfortunately, I live in Maryland and can’t have one.

During the post tornado power outage in the Huntsville, Al area the Sheriff for Madison County repeatedly said, “people have the right to protect themselves and their property”.
