General Gates just said and let me interpret... “President obama gave me his word and I received assurances from his cabinet that their team would remain silent. They lied to me and the Whitehouse can no longer be trusted”... he just can't come out and say it. The Military and civilian Intel community is fuming... and payback for so much that he has done to harm America... is a biotch!

If Gates had any honor, he’d resign immediately, call a press conference, and say this in front of cameras. That he hasn’t done so diminishes him and what he has to say.

I believe Gates was either an 0-1 or 0-2 in the Air Force. The guy was mainly a CIA/Intelligence stooge and commissioned in the Air Force because his intel back-round. Gates is also arrogant as hell. The guy has an "acedemic/textbook" worldview, he is not effective "at fighting guerrilla warfare(Soft power bull feces)" or war in general as well as overseeing the Defense Department. Gates, another failed Republican/Bush "legacy", no wonder Obama retained him. But "he" got Osama, right.
Basically Gates uses drones to kill/find cockroaches while trying to work with the enemy in "civilian" villages (Because the civilians are actually the enemy). Afghans are playing the bureaucrats for fools.
The root causes are scandalously ignored. The Robert Thompson strategy of COIN does not work on religious fanatics as they easily take advantage of the lack of aggressiveness and have no problems being "drawn out" into a long, slow developing conflict.
