“This amounts to $1.135 million per employee”.
...yeah. And they’ll want that in 10’s and 20’s.
Are they buying the Red Wings?
This amounts to $1.135 million per guaranteed democrat vote. Well worth your tax dollars, as far as zero is concerned.
I will do the job for 500,000. call me.
Gotta start somewhere
In November 2010, GM announced plans to invest $151 million and protect 143 jobs at the Flint and Bay City plants. The latest investment is part of a $2 billion investment to create or retain more than 4,000 hourly and salaried jobs at 17 facilities in eight states.
It should also be noted that not all auto manufacturing jobs are unionized. Those small numbers lead to larger numbers so its a plus.
So it collapses.
Henry Ford creates a million jobs with nothing but his garage, his wits, and his ability to gather support from others.
Now a million dollars is spent for a single job.
God help us.
For $1.135 million, I would be more than happy to come out of retirement.
While I’m not a government bailout supporter, I think your headline is misleading because:
DETROIT — General Motors will invest $109 million in its operations in Flint and Bay City, Mich., to support engine production for current and future fuel-efficient small cars produced for the U.S. market. The investment will protect or add 96 jobs at the two sites, the automaker says
Of the $109 million, $84 million will be used at Flint to increase 1.4-liter engine capacity. Bay City’s investment of $25 million is for connecting rods and camshafts used in the engine.
So I think it unfair to say it all goes to saving 96 jobs as the $ are also being used to upgrade the assembly line and for pats.
A big bump of agreement. GM (which is still Government Motors) is upgrading engine-producing plants. It is making sure the engines for its cars and trucks are made in a modern, high-quality, and efficient manner.
That it is happening in Flint and Bay City, and they are making political hay out of that fact is certainly worthy of debate. I will remind people that Flint has some good factories, and makes some high quality products, despite the rabid Union environment.
I'm still holding GM's feet to the fire for becoming a branch of the Obama Government. But upgrading a plant is upgrading a plant.
How much of GM does the government own any more?
It’s more than 0%, that’s all that matters. And the government still has hire/fire control over GM, so does it matter?
And every time I drive by the local Dodge, Jeep, and GM dealer in my town, I laugh and revow NEVER again will I own one of ANYTHING they make. These UNION asswipes can choke on their metal, plastic, rubber and chintz.....
GM executives can afford to preserve UAW jobs at the expense of profit. GM has paid no federal taxes since reorganization and will be exempt for a number of years.

Plus GM, like GE, isn’t going to be paying any corporate taxes like its competitors have to. Government favoritism.
Let’s make GM pay $3 billion dollars in taxes every year.
It will NOT raise the price of their products at all!
I searched for the answer but could not find it. So I asked my fellow Freepers.
Having the facts always matters to me. Being able to have an intelligent conversation often depends on it.
