A BRITISH woman was attacked and decapitated in a Chinese supermarket in Los Cristianos on the holiday island of Tenerife yesterday afternoon.

Witnesses said the deranged man used a large knife or machete he picked up in the supermarket to stab and decapitate the 62-year-old woman, a resident on the island. He then ran out into the street covered in blood, carrying his victim’s head and telling passers-by, “This is my treasure”.

Police arrested the man as he was struggling with a security guard and members of the public and trying to escape.

Spanish media reports name the suspect as 28-year-old Deyan Valentinov, who is believed to be a homeless Bulgarian man with a history of mental illness.

“...with a history of mental illness...”

I thought that we kept tighter control on the West Wing staff.

Um, those “Chino” stores are not just supermarkets per se, but also stores that carry anything and everything imported directly from China.

Right by the entrance to the Chiang Mai, Thailand Lotus-Tesco, there is a big farm tool, open air vendor. It sells all sorts of nasty looking farm tools including machete like knives. Several years ago, a shoplifter observed in Lotus armed himself with a brush cutter that looked like a long handled machete, took a hostage, and backed off the police for about an hour before being talked down and arrested. We were caught inside the supermarket for most of the time as our car was very near the crazy guy’s last stand location. Fortunately, the hostage kept her head.

You could be killed by a lunatic in your own home. The man had a mental illness, that happens sadly everywhere, every town in every country.

What a sad life if you never take the chance to go and see other nations and cultures as well as your own. Tenerife for example is a lovely place worth visiting (as is mainland Spain).

“You can buy a machete in the Chinese supermarket?”

Oh, yes. I’ve been in one of the Chinese stores (”la tienda de los chinos”) in Rota, Spain. They are one of the few stores open on Sunday.

They definitely sell machetes. Cheap sh!t, but could still cut one pretty good.

BTW, weren’t the machetes used in the massacre in Rwanda (back in the 1990s under B-J Bill’s watch) made in China?
