70% of disabled fear pressure to die if assisted suicide legalized: UK poll
Life Site News ^ | LONDON, May 13, 2011 | by Hilary White, Rome Correspondent

LONDON, May 13, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A survey conducted recently of disabled people in Britain, commissioned by the disability group Scope, found that 70 percent are “concerned about pressure being placed on other disabled people to end their lives prematurely” “if there were a change in the law on assisted suicide.” More than a third were worried they would personally experience such pressure.

Concerns about the dangers of legalized assisted suicide were shared equally by young people and those in older age groups.

Fifty-six percent of respondents believed any relaxation of the law would be “detrimental to the way that disabled people are viewed by society as a whole.”

Richard Hawkes, Chief Executive of Scope, said, “Our survey findings confirm that concerns about legalizing assisted suicide are not just held by a minority, but by a substantial majority of those this law would affect.

“Disabled people are already worried about people assuming their life isn’t worth living or seeing them as a burden, and are genuinely concerned that a change in the law could increase pressure on them to end their life.”

The news comes as legal experts from a government-appointed think tank have issued a report warning that should assisted suicide become legal in Britain, lethal drugs could become easily available over the counter.

As pressure builds in Britain’s parliament to legalize assisted suicide, and with the Director of Public Prosecutions refusing to prosecute cases of assisted suicide, concerns are growing among the disabled community that their lives are seen as less valuable by the legal and medical communities.

Alison Davis of the disability rights group No Less Human welcomed the survey, saying it “disproves the constant claim by the misnamed ‘Dignity In Dying’ lobby that most disabled people support assisted suicide.”

Leading to eventual age limitation for the greater good and the collective. Those over 60 do not contribute their fair share to society. The 25% of the people use 75% of the resources. Sound familiar.

"Those over 60 do not contribute their fair share to society."

Well, hey, just convince them it's their patriotic duty to "end it".

Soylent Green is people.

Now shut up, eat your last meal, watch your favorite movie and let the drugs do their work.

What a world.

Just more Progressive thought in the great tradition of Eugenics. Get rid of the less than perfect.

...”Just more Progressive thought in the great tradition of Eugenics. Get rid of the less than perfect”...

When I was young, I heard another young person remark, “Old people are just so unattractive!” In the cruel world of today, who knows..The beautiful, the young and the celebrity may not want to look at the ravages of aging, because then, they have to know that one day they will be there. Any nation which does not honor Father and Mother in the Biblical sense on the one hand and is willing to murder babies before birth with the other, will not stand. God will NOT BE MOCKED!

Tell ya, this rush to “get rid” of the elderly is gonna backfire. I’ve learned so much from people a good deal older than me. They’ve LIVED through a lot of crap.

I posted an article a few minutes ago about a Depression cooking symposium recently held in Chicago. One of the things they mentioned was trying to talk to those who lived through it and record their recipes, etc.

As times seem to get worse, I miss my grandparents much more. I’d give up a lot to have a weekend with my grandmothers and show me how they managed in those days.

When you get rid of the elderly, you are tossing out a TON of the institutional knowledge of your society.

Not only immoral, but beyond stupid.

My grandmother, born in 1888, lived with us all the time I was growing up. Her big sister lived with us for years when I was a teenager. I learned a lot and totally wish I had learned more and wish I could sit down with them both and have a nice long chat. Actually, I’m counting on it but will have to wait.

Come on, euthanasia is so great for us and government alike, a win win... Because once your date/time of death is known, fear not, all arrangements will be quickly made bureaucraticaly for all, and perhaps you will get to die even earlier. Heck, it’s how suicide bombers do it, the good old hurry up and wait in standby drill... (sarc off)

Soylent Green is people.

Someone on that side of the pond should make the point that Soylent Green is ... Stephen Hawking.

Bet THAT would have an impact on this debate.

This cult of never dying icons is irritating me. It’s the flip side of euthanasia, ie. its “benefactors” and material tyrants in hate. People, Presidents, need to be replaced. New generations need to come about.

That being said, I have known old ladies who were great artists and expressed their love, affection and beauty through the work they did. That cheap porn stuff, “I can sell it because I stole it or got it for free”, is utter garbage and a spiral of death for the handlers. It blinds them into utter stupidity and mental handicap. It’s throwing money at boob jobs and play boyz for nothing, because the minute their funding goes out, guess what, they’re bums.

Only 70% fear pressure to die? Must be a lot of irretrievable liberals in the sample.

Socialism is a cult of death. It’s what you get for getting scienticists who deal with their own views of certainty, and, ironicaly, they would murder the very scientists who transcended their handicaps in great works and continued development in other areas.

Once we want sure safety and certainty (and zero punishment, zero tolerance, government garrantees and knowledge of time of things like birth, death, beauty and other medical social programing of conception, we want our own condemnation, deep down in our hearts, and that is a sad shame and testimony of rebuke of God, of good and of anything living and fair and accepting.

It is in their language every day, it is in their “I love science cult”, and it is for suckers without faith and with an arrogant foolish betting islamic jihadist mentality.

God indeed knows that the blind is leading the blind in this, sugar pleasure covering horrors and confusion at painstaking dedication promoting enjoyment, and a camel would go through the eye of a needle more easily indeed.

They just do not try. It’s the true Equal Opportunity to decency that everyone rejects, and, hence, none of them will get that cynical equality they demand and even will not seek.

Well, Londonistan is the home of all euthanasia by suicide bombing. You go to sleep with the blast of a shock wave. So, yeah, %70 seem accurate enough.

Tend the other cheek, let the sacredness desecrate you. First they came for you, then they will be alone and lost all sense of what is sacred. God has branches of mercy, but once a fig tree will not produce fruits, it might as well wither right away. Knowing the time of death, certainty, means death of the universe.

Christ “knew” quite a bit about quantum physics, relativity, missing links and how it all made sense with the sense of justice and love of God and His gentle yoke of discipline.

One of the major UK serials is in the midst of an assisted suicide story focused on a quadriplegic trying to convince his mother to help him die.

Of course there will be pressure on them to die. And, of course, donate their organs.

A friend of a friend was thrown from a horse a few days ago and went into a coma, medivaced to a hospital. Her grown children and a brother gathered from various places, and my friend spent all day Friday at the hospital. Naturally the doctor tried to convince the family to pull her off life support so her organs could be donated. The woman has no insurance, so that is what happened; not sure of the organ donation though. Just got off the phone with my friend.

The vultures circle.

I will NEVER be an organ donor (at least not voluntarily) for that very reason.
