They may be lapping up a luxury Indian Ocean island honeymoon, but the newlywed Duke and Duchess of Cambridge plan to break with royal tradition and keep only a skeleton personal staff for their day-to-day lives. As Prince William and his wife Catherine near the end of their retreat on a private island in the Seychelles, news broke that the 10-night stay could be costing a whopping 450,000 ($A690,000 ).

German holiday planner Farhad Vladi confirmed that he had rented a private island to the royal family. An island which typically has a $A690,000 daily tariff, Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper reported.

''Prince William and Kate are spending their honeymoon there. But you will understand that we are not saying anything further,'' Mr Vladi said.

It is unknown who's picking up the tab for the royal break, or if the couple received a discount, but on their return to Britain, William, 28, and Catherine, 29, plan to tighten their belts.

Unfortunately your 2 cents aren't worth a nickel these days.
I'd take 1 hard working new immigrant any day over someone who thinks he/she is entitled to a government handout because they have been around a few generations..

The queen is worth an estimated $450 million plus she receives royalties from land holdings. Many of the wedding/honeymoon expenses come out of private funds and it was estimated that the wedding would bring $600 million dollars into the city of London via tourism, wedding related events and the like. The city provided security but it sounds like they made a profit.

It’s GOOD to be the Future King!! Thank God America doesn’t have Royalty that can spend hard earned taxpayer money on lavish vacations that aren’t related to running our Gov’t......Oh Wait...I forgot (Barry and Moochelle)..Nevermind...LOL!

As long as American tax payers don't have to pay it, who cares. It's England's Royalty, let them pay the bill.

Eh, I don’t detest their offspring and the women they marry. They didn’t choose to be born into royalty and the fact they seem decent people despite it, makes me wish them well.

what did they do to EARN the money they spent?

They do work, you know. Whose to say they paid for the honeymoon all themselves or at all? Her parents are successful and could've paid as a wedding gift.

You seem bitter they didn't come over for a Vegas wedding/honeymoon!

Thus the appellation “royal.”

Good work if you can get it.

“Sounds contradictory to me....what did they do to EARN the money they spent?”

Compare them to the Obama family and their “simple” yet frequent vacations, and you might change your mind at whom you want to spit.

Their monarchy has their own money...our’s doesn’t.

I long for the day when the Obama’s don’t think themselves to be royalty, and treat the taxpayers as such.

It’s their money. It turns out that the family is quite wealthy?

The Royal family get no tax money. They live off their property. The Civil List (when that was around) was payment in lieu of rents from the Crown Lands, not a grant.

Unfortunately, you are correct. Sad but true.

We are slowly losing the soul of this country... what made America great. There are still a few people who believe in individual responsibility, empowerment, self-sufficiency, and independence, though.

Are you against the natural right of a person to pass down to their posterity their wealth and material possessions?
