IF there is a defense of this, is he saying everyone should have to pay for THEIR OWN health care? And that you have to either have insurance or promise to pay something for care?
That would be a lot better than saying we all have an obligation to collectively pay for everyone else’s health care, which it sure sounded like he said.

Appearing on NBCs Meet the Press, Gingrich told host David Gregory that he continues to advocate for a plan he first called for in the early 1990s as a Congressman, which requires every uninsured citizen to purchase or acquire health insurance.
"Requires"..."every citizen"..."to purchase or acquire".
Sounds like an individual mandate to me -- i.e., government coercion.
Odd thing is, I don't recall his championing such a mandate at the time. But, now, he claims tht he did -- and I assume he's not lying.
