Actually, I think Newt is purposeful and calculated in his statement. He is probably trying to differentiate himself.

I also think he is misguided. I predict the fastest campaign implosion that we have seen in a quite a while.

BTW, lizards are often mistaken for newts. Perhaps the same error has taken place here...
