I thought I'd named one in my post.

He earned his commission by working extremely hard at the US Naval Academy. He served the US with distinction in three wars and in peacetime as well. He was decorated for his service on five occasions (three Navy Distinguished Service Medals, the Legion of Merit, and the Bronze Star with V.

I'm not quite sure why my suggestion gets a "NO, NO, NO...abso-freakin-lutely NOT!!!"

You are so funny!

Your original response was just fine! Please...don’t give in to the PC police.

Bless your dad’s heart, and I thank him for his service. Thank you for your sweet and patriotic sentiments for my husband, as well.

You’ve never sounded dumb to me. ;o)

One of my favorite lines from the movie Harvey:

My Mother used to tell me, “In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant.”

“Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.”

I prefer pleasant as well. Must be why I “attempt” to be humorous in my postings. Sometimes I'm successful.

I'm glad you're here Dixiechick.

I’m glad you’re here, too, Kickass Conservative...if only to be able to see your nic.

I love it!

I love “pleasant” as well, but sometimes there comes a point when one has to be a “kickass conservative.”

I look forward to seeing many more of your postings. ;o)

I try to be pleasant when speaking with my very Liberal BIL, but after five minutes or so my Kickass side comes out.

Needless to say, we don't talk much anymore. He got my Wife's Sister to vote for Obama and things have never been the same. Her late Husband was my best buddy and he loved to listen to my ramblings.

The New Husband, not so much. LOL

Well...I’d say your kickass side bodes well for you, and for the rest of us. I’m sorry to hear that you are in such a politically blended family, now.

However, at least you get to practice “kickass” on your lib BIL..

I’m so sorry that you lost your best buddy. That’s hard to undure. Think of him when you’re kicking ass. ;o)

I'll be visiting the relatives next month. My Wife's two Sisters and her Mother live in Natchez, MS now. Visiting them and then going to the Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans on the 16th unless the flooding changes things.

My Wife told me to behave myself when I get back there, and she wasn't talking about too much Barbecue and Beer. The Political “differences” between me and some of the Relatives are a topic of discussion among the Siblings.

Me thinks they feel my Politics are a bit obsessive. Well, they could be right about that. I'm paying penance for voting for Perot in 1992 when I wasn't really paying attention. Catholic guilt? LOL

Now, what are you doing up this late? I'm in CA and it's way past time to hit the hay and you have two hours on me.

Good night D.C. Take Care.

Omigosh! You have a full plate ahead of you, and I hope you will use it to your advantage...politically speaking.

From what I’ve seen, the downriver Katrina might be averted, but if you wlll be close to the Quarter, you will be in the highest spot of land around. That’s why they started N’Awlins there. ;o)

The airport is a different story altogther. lol

So...are your siblings going with you? Otherwise, you don’t need to worry about them.

Perot? You must be a young ‘un, politically speaking. Not Catholic guilt, at all. Just a flight of fancy at the time. ;o) Though, you might want to think about that, this time.

You’re in CA...I am from MS, but live in OR. Try as I might, it’s hard to find such folks as you on the left coast, except for this forum.

Nice to meet you, KA!

My Wife's Mother, Niece, Two Sisters and their Husbands, the “latest” two LOL, live in Natchez. One Husband gets me, the other (the Lib), not so much. I'll be visiting all of them before I go to N.O. for the Conference.

The Conference is at the Hilton on the River walk, so if the River rises it might flood that whole area. We'll see. I hear that the flooding in Vicksburg is higher than they estimated, so who knows what N.O. will look like in a few weeks.

My Wife and I are in Southern California. Her Brother lives down here as well, but he and his Wife are planning on moving up to Oregon next year near Portland.

How do you like it there? Must be quite the change from your younger years in the South.

Isn't it funny how a thread about the Navy naming a ship after a Commie turns into a Family Relationship and Travelogue discussion? This place cracks me up.

It is so nice to know someone who has, albeit intertwined, lived my life.

So...I love the River Walk. There is so much flooding going on upriver that I don’t think Baton Rouge or N’Awlins have anything to worry about. To me, that is such a shame. They are intentionally flooding excellent farmland to prevent two cities from suffering. Disclaimer...I’ve lived in both of those cities. Expect your fresh produce to increase in price even more, and God love those folks who will be devastated by these floods.

I’ve been in the Portland area for almost 20 years, and I don’t like it one bit. That’s my opinion. Portland, because of the government benefits, is where people from all over the country go to be homeless, and where young people go to “retire”.

Because of the “benefits”.

I’m a tad bitter at the way I’ve watched those from your area invade what was once a nice environment in which people could live. It had, and still has, a strong libertarian streak, but that has been overwhelmed by the influx of SoCal folks.

They found that they could get outrageous prices for their homes, so they sold them, moved here, and brought their politics with them. Dang them...

It’s not just a change from my younger years in the South. I’ve been married for over 40 years. I’ve lived all over the country. This area is offensive to me.

Sorry to be such a downer.

It really is so nice to meet people on threads, even if it is OT. ;o)
