César Chávez

"one of the people'

Right.

I lived in mid-coast California when he was most active. We were surrounded by lettuce fields. When he came to the area, My husband (with the Sheriffs Dept) would meet him at the hotel to provide escort to the fields.(He arrived from the airport in a chauffeur driven limo and dressed in $500 suits (this is the early '70's) - go into the hotel and change into well worn work clothes, come out and get into a old "clunker" and drive to the fields.

Phony through and through.

Sounds like ol cesar was just another community organizer.

If they wanted to name a ship after a real hero, I would suggest Roy Benevides. Although not Navy, he was a real hoss. No foolin. Look it up. Medal of honor award for rescuing a bunch of his buds while being shot up in the process. Not a peacock with a spanish surname.

I lived just south of Fresno at the time, and you are right.

However, he did not like illegals. He was a union man.
