Rep. Ryan: Gingrich misunderstood Medicare plan

CHICAGO — U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan said Monday that Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich does not fully understand a GOP proposal to turn Medicare into a voucher system, dismissing criticism from the former House speaker that the plan would be a radical change.

"I just think he's missing the mark on what our plan actually does," Ryan, chairman of the powerful House Budget Committee, told reporters after a speech to the Economic Club of Chicago. "Our plan is one of the most gradual things one could do," because it would not affect people over age 55 and would not kick in for 10 years.

Missed nothing.

Gingrich is a loser.

Ryan should run for President - he’s ten times the man Gingrich is.

An excellent start to Gingrich’s campaign!

....If you’re Barack Obama.

We need Ryan right where he is. He’s the only one smart on all this stuff and he doesn’t need to be further distracted from understanding the budget issues, crafted and defending and ultimately getting passed a solution.

I was astonished that Gingrich seemed clueless on a number of fundamental points.

Well, bright side of all this is:

1. Gingrich’s slam of Ryan’s budget plan PROVES that that plan is NOT politics-as-usual (i.e., it’s a real solution), and

2. The brutal drubbing administered to Gingrich demonstrates that NO ONE will be cut any slack on the point of repeal of Obamacare and an end to fiscal insanity in Washington. The swift and lethal punishment meted out to Gingrich should put every politician, on both sides of the aisle, on notice that We The People are deadset on defeating socialism.

If Newt could show me even one 20 year-old who would be upset that Medicare was being changed . . . good grief. The man has lost it.

Seniors are the MOST supportive demographic of the Ryan plan out there. They understand that everyone 50 or over will get the jellybeans. They understand that there will be a glide path for those near 50. And they understand that young people, entering or newly entered into, the workforce will have a voucher system available when they reach Medicare age, decades from now.

Please.

This is the same general idea George W. Bush was trying his heart out to get done for Social Security and the Rats and Republicans shouted him down.

Don’t know what is up with the guy. He is certainly not the old Newt of ‘94.

Newt missed this?

He’s going to miss my vote in 2012!

Sounds like some strong armed damage control.

It’s like having the exam questions ahead of time and still getting the answers wrong!

It certainly has been a few years since ‘94. A couple of wives and lots of politics since then.

If he'd make sense, I'd listen. But his responses are nonsense generalizations.

0bamacare and the death panels, aka IPAB, will kill Medicare in 2015 for all recipients. Fifteen corrupt and politically motivated physicians, appointed by the sinister HHS Leftist Sibelius, will decide that fate of millions of Medicare patients.
