Opponents of legislation dealing with union membership say procedural maneuvers launched Tuesday may signal a quiet death for the two bills.
Both bills deal with the so-called right-to-work issue one for public employee unions, one for private sector labor unions.
The bills would seek to have Maine join the ranks of 22 other right-to-work states. Employees in those 22 states who dont join the union dont have to pay their share of the costs for collective representation and contract bargaining handled by the union.
...
The right-to-work issue has been contentious in other states. In New Hampshire, Democratic Gov. John Lynch has recently vetoed a House right-to-work bill; Republicans there are trying to get the votes together to override the veto.

“Right to Work” should be a right for all
Little things like this just make the anti-capitalist, anti-business and anti-worker agenda of the lamestream media abundantly clear.
They obviously are taking a cue from the so-called "president" of these United States.
“Words have meaning but apparently not to the Bangor Daily News. Their leftist orientation is evident with the qualifier so-called prefixed to the quoted expression of “right to work”. It is exactly what it is! “
You think that was bad... Check how the NYSlimes manages to slur Bush in this article.

It made me gag.
Americans should have the right to tell the Union to go pound sand.
Any state that doesn’t support right to work should remove themselves from the United States constitution and succeed. Imagine how much better the rest of the country would be without them :-)
“Inch by inch, slowly we turned...”
We’ll get there.
Sorry Bangor News, perhaps a “slow death” for now ... until the voters of your socialist ruled state grow up and start electing pro-liberty pro American prosperity representatives instead of goonionista lapdogs.
When that happens watch Right-to-Work come back to life!
I guess these two states want to keep their residents slaves.
Never cared much for blue belly states.
Good point.
You know, my older kid is years ahead in math and reading...but is he really? Or is the rest of the country so far behind that he only looks years ahead.
Likewise, when blue states keep coddling the unions, states like Texas (where I live) only look better and better, even though we really haven’t done much - it’s just that the rest of the country keeps falling into the abyss.
Ad Missouri to the list. Right to Work was placed on “informal calendar” two months ago. Legislature adjourned last Friday. Quietly...
You’ve reminded me of when I had to turn a carrier into the wind for flight ops. There were multiple options on speed and rudder angle to prevent heeling the ship over and dumping people, aircraft, tools over the side...or the capts dinner in his lap. We had a heel indicator to ensure we knew how close we were to the allowed parameters.
My CO told me when I was departing that he always knew when I had the watch because the indicator in his cabin was alway just on the edge of going over...but I never broke the standing order so he didn’t feel he could chew me out....learned that lesson on my first command ... a frigate...where I literally dumped a meal in the COs lap....as well as all the department heads....JOs were on the other side of the table....:)
Which is all background story for my expressing an opinion: I think the country needs to heel past the limit with a hard rudder and put up with dumping some topside cargo in order to get on course again...fast!
