A Former Opponent of the Death Penalty Now Favors Hanging - by the Penis
New Haven Advocate ^ | May 17, 2011 | Win Vitkowsky

It looks like the death penalty will remain an option in the Cheshire home invasion trial, as key lawmakers who supported abolition last year say they will cross over to the other side. Dr. William Hawke-Petit, the sole survivor of a highly publicized 2007 home invasion in which his wife and daughters were followed home, raped and murdered, has led a lobbying effort against abolishing the death penalty in Connecticut.

State Sen. Edith Prague, who voted in favor of abolition last year, said she will switch sides this year. She made a strong statement to watchdog website CT News Junkie. “They should bypass the trial and take that second animal [Komisarjevsky] and hang him by his penis from a tree out in the middle of Main Street,” Prague said.

Liberals are indeed “do as I say, not as I do” hypocrites, but I don’t see that the State Senator knew the people involved?

This is such a horrifying crime. Two thugs who are pure evil targeting a hard-working, law-abiding family and following them home to a seemingly safe neighborhood. People can’t comfort themselves by saying, “That could not happen to me.”

It's a good thing I checked replies to the original post, as I was about to make the same exact post as you.

Liberals exist in their own isolated bubbles from which they wish to impose rules for everybody else. Occasionally, reality pokes its ugly nose past seal of their inner sanctum, and the intellectually honest ones at least do take notice.

I don't think the death penalty is an effective general deterrent, but it slashes recidivism rates like nothing else.

“They should bypass the trial and take that second animal [Komisarjevsky] and hang him by his penis from a tree out in the middle of Main Street,” Prague said.

This is the worst kind of liberal emotionalism. Last year, she opposes the death penalty. This year, she supports execution without a trial.

I would suggest that there is a reasonable middle ground.

"Capital Punishment has two purposes, a)punishment for the action and b)protection of society from the perpetrator."

Agree completely. Any argument that delves into 'the deterrent effect' should treat it as nothing more than a happy coincidence when and where it's established. My thoughts on capital punishment generally run along two streams...first, capital punishment is n fact, life affirming. If the penalties we exact as a society are to reflect our collective view of the severity of the infraction, the failure to exact the most severe penalty possible in effect devalues the life of the victim(s).

Second, I think capital punishment ought to be on the table for any crime in which the victim would have been justified in using lethal force to resist the crime. In such cases, it is the criminal who has openly placed the value of their own life below those of the fruits of the crime; that they did not get killed during the commission of the crime is merely a sad accident for the victim.

If it were up to me they would have to find some other slow death way to hang him, because he would have already been force-fed his penis and anus.

LOL! I knew I stole that idea from someone.

Seriously though, you are absolutely correct, especially your first sentence in the second paragraph.

Sometimes the popular history books skip over the nitty gritty details. There are other ways to, uhm, 'access' the intestines when they 'drew and quartered.' Look up how a hunter dresses and guts a deer to keep the meat from being spoiled by the contents of the gut. Bass Pro sells a special gadget to make it easier.

Now, transfer that to some "traitor" to the crown, and don't shoot the guy, first.

To call it cruel and unusual doesn't BEGIN to describe it.

Sometimes there are things you wish you could unlearn.

Isn’t she one of those gun-grabbing Democrats that infest this state’s government?

What a violent statement from her. Maybe she needs to be held for psychiatric evaluation. For her safety and the safety of the community, of course...

I would favor the Death Penalty were it not for the ability of the Government to screw things up. The DP is where you can't say "Oops! Wrong guy." and kick the guy out the door after 10 years in stir.

I've always thought we could farm out our death row inmates to a Bolivian or Thai or Nigerian prison, say at $30,000 per annum, and keep them alive on the chance that the eye witness will have a change of heart. It's a plus for the Bolivians, it's no fun for the prisoner, and it is reversible in case some mouth breathing DA committed a pooch screw 'cause he/she wanted to be governor.

It might actually be a deterrent if some gang banger from Chicago thinks he could spend life in some Thai lockup, a long way from his homies.

Would not mind if all female and male rapists and sex predators were hung from trees by their genitals.

No, not the high school kids where one’s a year older than the other. The real, honest to goodness, sex criminals.
