Senator questions benefits to ‘adult baby’
The Washington Times ^ | 5/17/2011 | Stephen Dinan

Posted on 05/18/2011 1:42:15 PM PDT by PieterCasparzen

A key senator has asked the Social Security Administration to investigate how people who live their lives role-playing as “adult babies” are able to get taxpayer-funded disability payments — after one of them was featured on a recent reality TV episode wearing diapers, feeding from a bottle and using an adult-sized crib he built.

Sen. Tom Coburn, Oklahoma Republican and the Senate’s top waste-watcher, asked the agency’s inspector general to look into 30-year-old Stanley Thornton Jr. and his roommate, Sandra Dias, who acts as his “mother,” saying it’s not clear why they are collecting Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits instead of working.

“Given that Mr. Thornton is able to determine what is appropriate attire and actions in public, drive himself to complete errands, design and custom-make baby furniture to support a 350-pound adult and run an Internet support group, it is possible that he has been improperly collecting disability benefits for a period of time,” Mr. Coburn wrote in a letter Monday to Inspector General Patrick P. O'Carroll Jr.

[...]

The inspector general’s office didn’t return a message seeking comment.

In an email response to The Washington Times, Mr. Thornton threatened to kill himself if his Social Security payments are taken away, and said the television episode showing him doing woodwork oversold his abilities.

“You wanna test how damn serious I am about leaving this world, screw with my check that pays for this apartment and food. Try it. See how serious I am. I don’t care,” the California man said. “I have no problem killing myself. Take away the last thing keeping me here, and see what happens. Next time you see me on the news, it will be me in a body bag.”

And liberals scream at talk of handing responsibility for charity to churches and the private sector.

What's the outrageous point here: that the Federal government, once they find out about this - DOESN'T IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF PAYMENTS, they start investigating and not responding to inquiries from the press.

Should the Federal government not seek REPAYMENT from these two for EVERY DOLLAR they received, or prosecute and send them to jail for fraud ?

That’s his whole argument?

“Keep supporting me at taxpayer expense or I’ll kill myself”??

Send him to jail for fraud, and fire whoever approved sending him checks.

SSI checks are a fave scam of Third World invaders to cash in........as they ride the US gravy train under several identities.

<><> First they get a latino Congressman to show them the ropes in exchange for votes and campaign contributions (exchanging gratuities for campaign help is a felony).

<><> Illegals then get their kids to fake ADD and get latino doctors to sign off on the scam.

<><> The illegal and his wife get SSI by faking being aged, blind or disabled.

<><> Getting SSI also gets them free healthcare on Medicare.

<><> All of it is collected with one identity---evidence shows illegals use multiple identities....all riding the US gravy train.

How do "impoverished illegals here for a better life" get fake documents? By paying document brokers several thousand dollars. Read on.

=================================

July 21, 2006----BERGEN RECORD, NJ

Texans accused of selling counterfeit IDs (impoverished illegals "here for a better life" pay several thousand $$$ for fake ID's)

Pelcastre brothers, Angel and Jorge, Dallas, Texas, were a walking threat to US national security, expert document forgers who, for a few thousand dollars, could give anyone a new identity, NJ L/E authorities said.

The Texas brothers were a "one-stop shop" for a myriad of fake US documents, including birth certificates, Social Security cards, driver's licenses---- for any state in the US------ passports and resident alien cards, said state police.

The Texas brothers turned a NJ hotel room into a business office and were readying a massive cache of fake Social Security cards for delivery to a local NJ identity broker. Officers happened upon two cars bearing Texas plates in a NJ hotel parking lot. Authorities wouldn't identify the NJ hotel by name for fear it would spark retribution. The Drug Interdiction Task Force regularly runs checks.

The Texas brothers were followed to a NJ office supply store nearby where they purchased computer supplies. Officers then followed the Texans to a NJ storage facility in Secaucus, NJ, where the Texans loaded several boxes into a car. One of them stood lookout. Authorities approached the Texas brothers when they returned to the NJ hotel and questioned them separately.

The Texas brothers consented to a search. Police recovered laminating sheets with built-in security features, pages of blank documents waiting for fake names and information, finished documents, computers and software to create the fake IDs. All told, the haul was worth about $500,000 on the street when sold to "impoverished illegals." Police also recovered $6,000 in cash, which was the first payment from a NJ fake document broker for a shipment of 500 phony Social Security cards. ####

Yeah, I say yank his benefits.

People who have hobbies build trains in their basement or people whipping the piss out of each other in their own homemade dungeons in their basements can hold down a steady 9-5 job. So why can’t this “adult baby” ie. (waste of space) hold down a job, you would think that would make his time “pretending to be toddler” more precious... (gah I just threw up a little in my mouth)....

Just curious how far he takes this baby stuff. Since he wears diapers, does he use them for their intended purpose? And does he have that mother figure change his diapers? Afterall, he is just a baby.

Tons of waste, fraud and abuse. And the left says there is no place to cut, that the debt is a revenue problem..

Why not take the checks from 10 of them and build a house with a hundred bunk beds and a community bath and put a hundred of them in at a time. Watch how quick they get back on their feet if they have to live like that instead of a nice apartment all for themselves. If they can’t support themselves, let them bunk with all the other losers.

Agree 100% if the libs want welfare programs it should be at the expense of those reviving it in the form of dignity and being uncomfortable. It should never be comfortable. Those who are truly hopeless will appreciate a warm meal and place to sleep, those who are lazy will get off their duffs.

People work hard every day, sometimes just getting by, and this scumbag expects to sit around in his diapered butt and collect a government check? And it takes a U.S. Senator to question it? Cut off the check — let him sink or swim or off himself. I really don’t much care which one he chooses.

But this guy, even though he might be one of the more egregious examples, is an ice crystal on the tip of the iceberg as far as abuse of the disability system is concerned. I have an acquaintance who recently went on disability because of an injury. He can no longer do the job he once did. But he isn’t blind or deaf, he isn’t in a wheelchair, he isn’t laid out permanently in bed — he goes out and parties with his friends and does work around his place. Why can’t he train to do some other kind of work that is not as physical as his old job was?

I read the article. I would like to know what doctor is signing off on his “disability” and on what basis. The doctor should also be investigated and penalized. Same goes for the caretaker. It would be nice to know the value of the free benefits they are getting. Probably SSDI payments, medicaid, food stamps, subsidized rent, at least, if not additionl benefits. My wild guess would be they are clearing over $50,000 tax free, of the money we all work for.

I agree. They should house them on an institutional basis. Then if they work for 6 months or some time frame, maybe they get a private room or something.... but don’t make it so comfortable for able-bodied people to be on the dole for all of their needs.

SSI is not the same as SSDI. SSI is Supplemental Security Income - a welfare payment administered by Social Security. The money does NOT come from the SSA trust fund. SSDI is Social Security Disability Income - it's based on your work history.

The most he can get on Federal SSI is $674 a month. That does not include whatever optional state supplement he gets.
