If she had said “a former priest” would it be equally funny/sarcastic to say that he thought the maid was boy? Even with a kernel of truth it is made at the detriment of Catholics and the priesthood. whereas if accusations of priests molesting were proven false, it would have to be viewed as a sl;am against priests.
