Good question and if Trump was working for Obama, why did Trump bring up so many of Obama's other failures. Seems to me if they were working together, Trump would have just hammered the BC and not said a word about the other stuff.

I think there are only two possibilities that explain what Trump was doing. Either he was testing the water because he was seriously thinking of running, but then decided it wasn't worth the grief. OR, he was acting like a wrecking ball trying to do damage to Obama so others (anyone, someone?) could step up to the plate. If Trump was successful with the BC, it sure would have opened the door wide open and made things easier for everyone/someone.

My take is that everyone is saying that Obama is a disaster anyway, and this far out in the cycle, it does not seem to matter whether there is criticism. Even the press will occasionally say something negative during this period. Trump was safe in being critical to give himself the street cred to demand the birth certificate.

What matters, is that it has taken the Birth Certificate issue off the table by bringing it out before it would have an appreciable effect on the election, so no one will care any more. That he released it so soon, even if fraudulent, will mean that everyone will disregard claims of fraud, no matter how well founded.

Trump was Obama’s agent and clean-up man to clear the decks of a thorny issue, and to incidentally make a little cash for himself.

A liar will always tell you they are a liar if you listen carefully enough. Trump has done that, IMHO.
