May 21 END OF THE WORLD LIVE THREAD - bring comments, photos, links

HAROLD CAMPING SITE

The earthquake is scheduled to begin in Australia later tonight and the destruction and devastation roll through the timezones.

It's been nice knowing all of you. I guess the only good news is that it will be the end of the Obama Administration. And the Clintons, Arnold, the Palestinians, Villaraigosa, Nancy Pelosi, NOW, and Planned Parenthood. And Charlie Sheen and the rest of Hollywood.

I'm on-call this weekend. If I don't make the cut, I'm going to be very busy.

Maybe I just won't answer the phone.

Here let’s make it simple for the simple.
A prophet is one who speaks for God.
A prophet will either tell forth or fore tell the future
as revealed by God.
This man is claiming to be foretelling the future
as revealed to him by God by revelation, either directly
or by the revealed Word the Bible.
Since God has already told us that He will tell NO man
when the day of the Return of Jesus Christ is, we know not
to believe that so-called prophet. Bet on it.

I am currently reading this book. A much different story than Camping's

BTW, this book was written in 1881; you wouldn't believe how accurate it is!

The End of the Present World

Reading this book was one of the greatest graces of my life!"
— St. Thérèse of Lisieux

In the late nineteenth century, Father Charles Arminjon, a priest from the mountains of southeastern France, assembled his flock in the town cathedral to preach a series of conferences to help them turn their thoughts away from this life’s mean material affairs—and toward the next life’s glorious spiritual reward. His wise and uncompromising words deepened in them the spirit of recollection that all Christians must have: the abiding conviction that heavenly aims, not temporal enthusiasms, must guide everything we think, say, and do.

When Father Arminjon’s conferences were later published in a book, many others were able to reap the same benefit—including fourteen-year-old Thérèse Martin, then on the cusp of entering the Carmelite convent in Lisieux. Reading it, she says, “plunged my soul into a happiness not of this earth.” Young Thérèse, filled with a sense of “what God reserves for those who love him, and seeing that the eternal rewards had no proportion to the light sacrifices of life,” copied out numerous passages and memorized them, “repeating unceasingly the words of love burning in my heart.”

Now the very book that so inspired the Little Flower is available for the first time in English.

Let the pages of The End of the Present World and the Mysteries of the Future Life fill you with the same burning words of love, with the same ardent desire to know God above all created things, that St. Thérèse gained from them. Let them also enrich your understanding of certain teachings of the Faith that can often seem so mysterious, even frightening:

  • The signs that will precede the world’s end
  • The coming of the Antichrist, and how to recognize him
  • The Judgment and where it may send us: heaven, hell, and purgatory
  • Biblical end-times prophecy: how to read it and not be deceived

Jesus commands us to be ever-watchful for his return, and ever-mindful that we have no lasting city on earth. The End of the Present World and the Mysteries of the Future Life is an invaluable aid to inculcating in your spirit that heavenly orientation, without which true human happiness cannot be found—in this world or the next.

If Camping is a false prophet, it will become manifest soon. However, Lot's sons scoffed. The people in Noah's day scoffed. Nowhere does the Bible commend scoffers.

Cnn actually did a nice job posting the money behind this guy, however, way up in double digit millions, at least some of which has, OH MY, disappeared along with Camping apparently....no one can find him today and hmm, all that money was sent to him.

I do think Christ would condone the pointing out that people were harmed and ripped off by this man. There are some studies showing high suicide rates for those who have been sucked into apocalypse plans such as this one.

False prophets indeed, and false prophets who wrecked the lives of others who bought into them, and who made big money in the process. NOTHING Christ-like about this behavior. Scoffing is the least of my feelings toward Camping. Loathing is more appropriate.

I really hope he didn't do that.

A question for you: Do you know the man or anything about Family Stations, or are your opinions rooted solely within the context of this May 21st fiasco?

“I will continue to work my earthly plans which King Jesus can interrupt at any time as the Father has appointed.”

But we also know that God is Just, and it would be very unjust to end the world on a false prophet’s schedule.

That doesn’t mean Sunday wouldn’t work just fine, though. As I’ve said, I’m not ready, but I’m not so unready that I wouldn’t welcome his return.

What upsets me is that Family Radio is a marvelous Christian ministry, of a much higher quality than most commerical Christian broadcasting which is by and large worldly and silly. FR is not. Many have never heard of it until now, and Camping has done unspeakable damage to the reputation of the organization that he helped to build. Now people will ever associate them as just another group that predicted the end-of-the-world, whereas that is not what FR is about.

They survived this once before, but this is much worse. It's staggering to consider that Mr. Camping spent a goodly fraction of the cost of a presidential campaign on the marketing of this May 21st prediction.
