Republican Professors Are Racist, Study More or Less Says
Gawker ^ | May 20, 2011 | Hamilton Nolan

Posted on 05/21/2011 1:52:40 PM PDT by lbryce

A new study—which will doubtlessly be oversimplified and distorted by liberal blogs like us in order to demonize those whose political beliefs we find repulsive—has found that Democratic professors grade like this ("I am a laid-back hippie"), while Republican professors grade like this ("All the black students fail!").

What the study of professors at "an unnamed elite American university" actually found was that Republican professors tend to give more grades at the high and low extremes of the grading scale, while Democratic professors' grades tended to cluster in the middle, in a more copacetic manner. Oh, and this:
With regard to race of students, the study found that black students received lower grades, on average, than did white students whether classes were taught by Democrats or Republicans. In courses with Democratic professors, the gap was 0.27 on a grade point average. In Republican-led classrooms, the gap was 0.42.
The study's authors didn't say why Republicans gave harsher grades to black students, but the answer is "to give us something to argue about."

I strongly suspect my university instructors’ teaching assistants didn’t know the race of the student whose paper they were grading.

Must be true. Most Republican professors are white ergo they must be racist. < sarcasm off >

What “elite” American university has enough Republican professors to provide a valid statistical sample?

This sounds more like a fabricated study to grind a political ax than something that can be supported by statistics.

On second thought, I believe it was Mark Twain who said “There are liars, there are damned liars, and there are statisticians.”

Maybe the ‘Rat professors are racists for not failing students who should fail simply because they are black.

Republican professors grade like this ("All the black students fail!").

How about this? Republican professors grade like this ("All the students who fail, fail!").

Of course, if any Black student fails the Republican professors are racists......

Blacks typically call anyone racist who doesn't give them everything they want.

From what I've seen, white liberals are far more likely to throw around accusations of racism than most blacks - it's become a nearly meaningless insult hurled at anyone who doesn't agree with liberal policies.

Unless they controlled by Discipline, the results are probably meaningless.

In my experience, what few Republican Professors there are tend to reside in the professional schools (e.g., the School of Business or Medicine).

It would not be surprising that there would be lower grades in those types of courses than there would be in some of the Liberal Arts courses for example where a "C" is about as low as the grades go.

Actually - the truth is something more like this:

Liberal professors (the VAST majority of those in colleges and universities across this nation) grade like this: if I agree with your politics or I see you as a “victim” of society and “the system”, then you get a passing grade - maybe even better.

Conservative professors (very rare): I will give you the grade you deserve without consideration to race or background. Getting ahead is the result of hard work, not racial preferences or excuses.

Sounds as if they grade they way they govern. Republican results more or less follow a classic bell curve with a normal distribution of performance.
They likely grade honestly without letting a political agenda affect their judgement and the outcome

On the other hand, democrats appear to grade in a way that ensures equality of results.
They are still building false self esteem for low peformers while holding back high performers.

Those of us (Republican professors) in colleges of arts and sciences tend to be concentrated in the sciences. There are actually quite a lot of us, mostly folks who grew up under Communism and recognize the same rhetoric, methods, and ideas in ‘lite’ form from the Democrats, but some of us are native born Americans.

Notice the grades the liberals tend to hand out are in the middle. No explanation or courage required. However, in order to hand out As or Fs as the republicans are more likely to do requires explanations and, in the case of Fs, courage.

Bingo. But I bet that “clustering grades in the middle” means more or less giving everyone an A. In contrast, more grades at the extremes means the professor rewards people who meets the standards and punishes those who don’t—in short, they “discriminate” against students who are lazy or stupid. So, its feel good non-judgementalism vs. achievement-based “discrimination”.

Gawker Turns to Race-Baiting for Ad Revenue

Posted by NKYvoice
Recently Hamilton Nolan, a staff writer and editor at Gawker the online News/Gossip Magazine, wrote an article entitled, Republican Professors are Racist, Study More or Less Says. Gawker has recently suffered from “massive” advertising revenue losses and it seems the staff has decided to fight this by taking a page from William Randolph Hearst & Joseph Pulitzer by diving into the murky and toxic waters of ‘Yellow Journalism’ in order to drive up traffic...
