Teens Riot In Manhattan Businesses
My Fox NY ^ | 05/24/2011

MYFOXNY.COM - It's like a flash mob gone bad. Security footage from a Manhattan Dunkin' Donuts shows a group of youths climbing on counters, throwing chairs and throwing tables in a violent attack on workers.

It happened at the Dunkin' Donuts on Christopher Street in Greenwich Village. A $2,000 hot chocolate machine was reportedly destroyed in the attack.

Similar attacks have targeted other stores in the neighborhood in the previous weeks.

The video shows one of the teens throwing a chair and then running up to grab a donut.

A few of the attackers also grabbed drinks out of a refrigerator near the door, and they all quickly ran from the store.

Some businesses and even residents recently have complained about violence in the area. Most of the business owners didn't want to give their names for fear of retribution.

One store owner told Fox 5's Lisa Evers that some kids did something similar at his business about a week earlier than the incident at Dunkin' Donuts.

He said, "It's not safe around her."

The NYPD said it was examining the Dunkin' Donuts security footage but has not made any arrests.

In a statement to MyFoxNY.com, NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn's spokesperson, Jamie McShane says, "We will continue to work with the NYPD to make sure Christopher Street is a safe place especially as the weather gets nicer and more people flock to the area."

“Only one word for Dunkin Donuts customers: Dunkin dumbasses”

That was two words.

Wow, that’s a lot of anger over a coffee joint...and to think they’re all in line JUST TO PISS YOU OFF!

Is the blocked traffic the store’s fault or the city’s? In Michigan there is rarely a line at Dunkin Donuts. Starbucks is the one with the lines, and is also the severely overpriced one.

In any case, M-F coffee is made at the office...no stopping or brewing at home.

Your thinking is cutting edge.

I had heard that Scotland Yard has [and this may sound more strange than the riot] ear files. They can positively ID anyone based on unique features of the ear. Of course, hats and hair styles can hide one’s ear. But we are reaching a point where someone’s face will be enough information to nab him or her at the speed of a downloaded web page. Heck, if video gets even better, peoples’ fingerprints could be IDed by video.

Take away the circus, the mob gets restless. Take away the bread, and a revolution happens.

Seen the price of bread lately?

You’d think at least there would have been one cop on site.

More than one recent incident, several big scale ones
in Philadelphia, a Wauwatosa Mall near Milwaukee trashed
this past winter.

being able to easily identify and arrest the perps sure does!

Imagine on you local nightly news seeing a HD quality video of a robbery where you can easily recognize everyone commenting the crime, instead of a fuzzy blurred vcr video where you not even sure what is happening much less who is committing the act.

I would have all law enforcement agencies purchase the year books of all local schools and thne use facial recognition software to instantly ID all the perps and have them in jail before the day was up.

This is not “collapse” this is an intentional push, of just
the sort of push a would be robber tries on a target.
The NYPD has been engaging in some quite blatant displays
of patently unsuitables in uniform, 5 foot young women and
the morbidly obese. There have been many reports of large
numbers of men leaving the force. There also seems to be
an increase in the “subway bag check” stations staffed by
NYPD. So those recalling the NYPD of decades past should be
aware that things have changed.

It would be interesting to know if most of the “rob and mob”
targets are chain stores or franchises.

This is way out of their neighborhood. Probably you’re
right about the conditions there.

” “The video shows one of the teens throwing a chair and then running up to grab a donut.”

He needed to keep up his energy level. Throwing chairs is hard work.

This is not a welfare neighborhood. This is the long since
gentrified West Village, which prides itself on being a
tourist attraction, although IMO it has turned largely
into cluster of big name chain stores. I don’t know what
Dunkin Donuts will decide about staying but until recently
this location and all those nearby were prime, prime
commercial sites. The West Village is in Manhattan for those
who didn’t recognize the name or the street. If the police
are allowing rampages on these establishments that is
truly thought provoking.
