As the days wind down to the scheduled weeklong congressional recess to mark Memorial Day, Republicans have a choice to make. Will they merely grumble about President Obama using the break to appoint more radical nominees without Senate confirmation, or will they actually stop him? To date, Obama has made 28 recess appointments. One of them, Donald Berwick, was put in charge of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, even though he was never scheduled for a Senate confirmation hearing. If Republicans don't act, history could repeat itself next week.

On another issue, what about obama’s violation of the War Powers Act? Everybody is just sitting there!
Until Republicans in DC get as serious about things like recess appointments as the Democrats they will continue being way down the pecking order. And until they realize they have to fight fire with fire and use the same ploys the Left does to further its causes we will continue to see our rights slip sliding away.
My message to the GOP is “Get Serious!”
I honestly don’t know the facts regarding movement on this issue. I DO know that there is precedent....since other presidents have taken similar actions in the past.
Hopefully you contact them with this message frequently. They do (for the most part) consider what their constituents have to say.
You are correct, but our representatives need to be AWARE of this as well. Many representatives are in regular contact with senators from their states.
In the Senate, the Chair has no inherent authority to declare recesses. Recesses are accomplished only (1) by the full body giving unanimous consent to hold recesses “subject to the call of the Chair,” or (2) by adopting a motion to recess, offered by any Senator from the floor.
Neither House, during the Session of Congress, shall, without the Consent of the other, adjourn for more than three days
The conservative senators could prevent a recess by objecting to a unanimous consent request; and the house could prevent the senate from actually adjourning.
What the Republicans in the senate should do is insist the senate stays in session all weekend to address the disasters taking place in the US. Boehner asks congress stay in session for funding purposes.
Then when the Rats leave town, raise a stink about how they only care for their union brethren and not real Americans.

Are you really delusional enough to think the Republican Party have the ethical, moral, and personal courage to do anything to stop this march to dictatorship in Washington. I refer not to the few stalwarts who will indeed speak out, rather to the “organization of the Republican party”.
The Senate Republicans are so spineless. The only thing there good at is bending over and saying Mr President can I have it again
Actually, I’m a realist. I understand that the AMOUNT of contact received from constituents CAN be an influence.

Well, he can only take the action for 60 days - then he has to get congressional approval. The 60 days have passed and the regime has said they have no intention of stopping the Libya action and they don’t intend to seek congressional authority!
