Giuliani Aiming to Take Down Romney in New Hampshire
U.S. News ^ | May 24, 2011 | PAUL BEDARD

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani isn't just thinking about running for president next year: It's his obsession and he's already mapping out a strategy to knock off GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney in New Hampshire.

**SNIP**

What's more, adds King, Giuliani has already been "talking to people in New Hampshire" about his strategy to focus all his early attention there, not the Iowa caucus, because beating Romney in the former Massachusetts governor's political backyard will propel the New Yorker's candidacy into the next two showdowns in South Carolina and Nevada.

"He would focus on New Hampshire almost entirely," said King at a Monday night dinner organized by the conservative American Spectator magazine. "He is very close to running."

And apparently so is King. Urged to run by his local GOP supporters, King said he was game for a presidential bid. The chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, who has a knack for grabbing controversial topics said, "Why not see where it's going to go. Odds are one in a million." But, he added, running for president provides him a national "forum" to address his concerns about terror attacks in America and charges that the Muslim community is not being cooperative enough with the FBI.

He would focus on New Hampshire almost entirely

Didn't Rudy have a similar strategy in '08 except with Florida?

Also, it sounds like Peter King may be throwing his hat in the ring now. This is the first I am hearing of this.

Isn’t Rudy Giuliani still pro-choice? I don’t see any path to the nomination for a pro abortion candidate. Seems like a nonstarter to me.

RINO fight.

I can’t vote for either of them.

Interesting....the polling so far doesn’t show that though...is a Giuliani run under the radar...could he be the anti-Romney?

Rudy is a social liberal and supports the murder of gestate babies, as well as all the pet “gay” issues.

I can understand Rudy’s line of reasoning on this one. He expects the field to be very conservative making him the most attractive candidate to independents. I don’t think he has a chance, but I can see where he is coming from.

You clearly don’t like Rudy. That’s cool. I’m not too crazy about his social leanings, but I thought some other FReepers might want to know the Republican field could potentially increase by two in the very near future. No bugzapper required.

From the article, it sounds like King would be in the ring for attention. A million to one shot that could raise the profile of some of his causes, nothing more. He has nothing to lose, he figures, so why not?

Rudy, on the other hand, may well be planning on stepping up and getting in if the field remains this weak.

It’s too bad Rudy’s so flawed, because he does have some very strong points. I don’t really mind the pro-choice thing, as it’s outside the President’s ability to directly control. Society is slowly but inexorably turning against abortion, and it’s days are numbered.

The imminent problem is that Rudy’s a gun grabber, which is a deal breaker for me. A Republican president could cause a lot of damage in 4 years. At least Obama knows that he’s got no cover to reach for our guns, and it keeps him at bay.

Anyway, I guess time will tell. The current field is a pack of non-starters. I love Cain, but the fact that a guy with no experience in public office is doing so well is a testament to flimsy our selections currently are.

I would happily vote for Rudy over both Romney and Obama.

I can understand why Rudy is looking at the race now because the field looks so weak and Romney and Gingrich are imploding.

But here's the deal. I'm pro-life and that is an important issue to me. I understand the President can't do much about that other than appoint originalist judges willing to overturn Roe. I get that.

Last time Rudy hinted he would appoint such judges. I need more than a hint before even considering him.

Giuliani couldn’t be the antiRomney.

Giuliani could be the antiPalin.

Giuliani and Romney are in the same “establishment republican” category.

Maybe Rudy useful this time around and help snuff out Romney’s campaign. It’s hard to imagine him being a viable candidate anywhere other than in New Hampshire given that he is pro-abortion, though.

Ah, but he can split the Romney / Establishment votes...a conservative challenger can succeed with less votes.
