Obama's Israel Policy Makes U.S. Look Foolish
US News ^ | May 24, 2011 | Peter Roff

Posted on 05/25/2011 5:33:24 AM PDT by SJackson

President Barack Obama’s stunning about-face on U.S. policy toward Israel—saying that it needs to recede to its pre-1967 war borders as the starting point for negotiations to create an independent Palestinian state—could be the beginning of a bold new initiative in U.S. foreign policy.

Why stop there? Why not, for example, as part of ongoing U.S. negotiations with Mexico, give back the territories in Arizona and New Mexico the United States gained in the 1853 Gadsden Purchase as a preliminary offer to settle the problem of illegal immigration? And, if that’s not enough, offer to give back Texas as well.

Or, to win the love and respect of the French people, return the lands involved in the Louisiana Purchase to France. Or promise to pull the United States back to its pre-1776 borders as part of a negotiation with everyone who may still hold a grievance over the outcome of the U.S. war for independence.

On the world stage, Obama could ratify his Nobel Peace Prize by asking the Spanish to return to their pre-1492 borders or insist that the United Kingdom give back Scotland to the Scottish, making William Wallace’s dream a reality. To bring peace to the Balkans, he might propose that the countries of middle Europe be reassembled into the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

There are a whole host of territorial disputes just waiting for Obama’s firm hand and innovative approach, not just in the Middle East, but all over the world.

The reality is that his demand of Israel makes the United States look foolish and, more importantly, unreliable as an ally. It’s a dangerous thing, something anyone old enough to remember the Carter years would do well to remember.

No, no, you’ve got it wrong.

OBAMA makes the US look stupid.

He has no policy.

He has no ideas.

He has no brain.

He is slime.

Looking at the comments after the article, it appears the new propaganda office in the White House is up and running:

“Laughable analysis

How is it a “stunning about face” on US policy towards Israel when what Obama said about pre-1967 lines was merely a public iteration of long-standing US policy, one subscribed to by both Bush and Clinton for starters. In Israel, both Kadima and Labour backed Obama and, according to opinion polls in Maariv today, a majority of Israelis believe that Netanyahu should have given at least qualified support to Obama’s call.

Comparisons are always odious, but these pathetic examples are more odious than most. The simple fact is that the West Bank and Gaza are occupied territories, something recognised by all the world, that the Palestinian Arabs there constitute the vast majority and that the settlers there are illegal interlopers under international law (even though the vast majority will still be able to live under Israel rule under a land swap deal). It is time to recognise that the Palestinian people are not just deserving of rights like the rest of us but that they are, just as much as any American or Israeli, human beings not so much dirt under our feet.”

In addition, once this _resident is no longer the _resident I feel sure there will be no more “magic negro’s” in the WH for years and years.

Simplistic analysis.

Judea and Samaria are no more “occupied” than are 1000 other places on this planet where borders have been altered by war. Borders shift continuously and populations adjust to the change. Look no further back than the many border changes and dislocations during and after WWII. Almost every country on the continent had changes in their territory. Many millions of people migrated, many of them Germans.

The Arabs attacked Israel and lost some territory. This land de facto now belongs to Israel. If Israel wishes to negotiate some of this land for diplomatic considerations, then that is her right.

But let’s stop making Israel a special case to which we apply rules that apply no where else in the world.

More to the point, how about giving back upstate New York to the Iroquois Confederacy.

Give Alaska back to Russia and Sarah Palin couldn’t run for president. Of course we should probably ask for a refund since we purchased Alaska from the Russians as we did the Louisiana purchase land from France. lol

I forgot, Florida would have to be returned to Spain, not sure if we would get a refund though. Did we purchase that or win it?

It is said as a joke, but I have no doubt that Obama would have no problem giving back California, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas back to the Mexicans.

He would do it in a flash.

He isn’t a President, he is a joke.

A fool who cannot even give a toast.

Let’s not get picky, Obama makes America look foolish, period. He, MO, and his entire administration have succeeded in making the US a global joke. In two years, he’s torn down 200 years.

And, if that’s not enough, offer to give back Texas as well.

Give Texas back to Mexico? Excuse me, but any giving back would be to the Republic we were before entering into the states which today doesn't seem like a bad idea.
