Obama's Unspoken Re-Election Edge
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 5/25/2011 | SHELBY STEELE

Posted on 05/25/2011 7:04:42 AM PDT by Hotlanta Mike

Many of the Republican presidential hopefuls should be able to beat President Obama in 2012. This president has a track record now and, thus, many vulnerabilities. If he is not our "worst president," as Donald Trump would have it, his sweeping domestic initiatives—especially his stimulus package and health-care reform—were so jerry-built and high-handed that they generated a virtual revolution in America's normally subdued middle class.

The president's success in having Osama bin Laden killed is an exception to a pattern of excruciatingly humble and hesitant leadership abroad. Mr. Obama has been deeply ambivalent about the application of American power, as if a shameful "neocolonialism" attends every U.S. action in the world. In Libya he seems actually to want American power to diminish altogether.

This formula of shrinking American power abroad while expanding government power at home confuses and disappoints many Americans. Before bin Laden, 69% of Americans believed the country was on the wrong track, according to an Ipsos survey. A recent Zogby poll found that only 38% of respondents believed Mr. Obama deserved a second term, while 55% said they wanted someone new.

And yet Republicans everywhere ask, "Who do we have to beat him?" In head-to-head matchups, Mr. Obama beats all of the Republican hopefuls in most polls.

I believe race/American dream and white guilt are only a small part of Obama’s edge. More importantly, increased numbers of minority voters, both black and Hispanic, along with people of all races parasitically wed to entitlements are his ace cards.

The MSM is more powerful than most freepers want to admit.

All candidates have flaws, some more than others. The MSM exploits and beats to death any flaw in a Republican candidate. Obama has more flaws than most, and yet, none of them are mentioned.

The true enemy of this country is the MSM. I despise the MSM. The MSM is causing the collapse of America. Remember the movie Red Dawn? Silly movie, but the invasion happened, and the MSM is the occupying force. The MSM is no less dangerous, and no less offensive than an occupying enemy army.

The key is cronyism...what are you going to give me. Well, here in America taxpayers foot the bill. It’s time for a Tea Party uprising that we are not supporting pay to play politics anymore and further we are not going to support leaches....go to Spain, Portugal, Italy or Greece.

Another reason to back Cain.

Not only is he extremely presidential and well qualified to implement the policies needed to turn this country around like the failing business it is, he removes the race card from the deck.

Post of the day! We should also remember who educated the members of the MSM...that is the ROOT of the problem.

Obama & the dems spent ALL, repeat all of 2009 passing the health bill. Why all the effort? Don’t folks understand that put 45 million citizens in the dem column? Can’t you hear him, “The first law the Tea Party folks will pass is to repeal my health bill we worked so hard to finally give you health care. If you want to lose your health benefits, then vote for my opponent.” He doesn’t have to worry about the unions, blacks, and all those receiving state pensions. Sadly, the complement of that group won’t vote in high enough numbers to elect his adversary, especially since that group has become so dienchanted with him. Am I missing something or just a cranky pessimist?

This is the same Shelby Steele who predicted Obama couldn’t win in 2008.

There are a lot of groups that are exempt from the health bill, right? Nancy Pelosi, AARP, teachers unions, municipal unions here and there, SEIU?

I have much less of a problem with social services, especially since the powers that be saw fit to unload the insane asylums onto the streets. However, subsidies to big oil and corporate farmers is BS. GE not paying taxes is BS.

I like a Cain/Obama matchup. In one corner you have a successful businessman who is an African American. In the other corner you have a career politician who is a Kenyan American and who has never run a business in his life. In a bad economy, I think Cain could tear Obama a new one.

You hit the nail on the head in every way. The MSM is the reason he was elected and will be the reason he is re-elected (if he is). He’s an MSM creation and they will do everything to keep him there.

Most useful line of the piece: “Barack Obama believes in government; we believe in you.”

Delivered by Cain. Or Palin. Either could blunt his messianic symbolism.

Only trouble with Cain is that now he has to start getting specific. He can’t just keep peddling the same answer of “Let’s explore the problems, ask the right questions, find the solutions and hire the right people.” As he gets taken more seriously, reporters and voters will want some meat on those bones.

Only half of the losers that voted for him buy into that crap trap.

Shelby Steele is right, as usual, but what he calls Obomba’s “cultural charisma” I call cultural white guilt, having seen it in practice around American corporations where high level executives tiptoe fearfully around incompetent black janitors.
