John Edwardes rolls the dice
Politico ^ | May 26, 2011 | Ben Smith

Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards appears ready to gamble on a high-stakes confrontation in federal court in a case that will pit his ravaged reputation and self-admittedly abominable behavior against a government case Edwards’ camp sees as relying on unreliable witnesses and hazy law.

Two sources familiar with the case confirmed to POLITICO Tuesday that the U.S. Attorney in Raleigh has signaled that he is on the brink of indicting Edwards on felony campaign finance charges linked to his cover-up of the affair that destroyed his marriage and his political career. Justice Department officials declined to comment on the potential charges, which were first reported by ABC News

Pride always goethe before the fall.

He has enough (or should have enough) that he doesn’t need to work, so it’s not that heavy of a price to give up his license.

The DA is probably willing to go along with a minimal punishment if he’d cop a plea.

Ah well, nice knowing you John Edwards.

Every media mention of John Edwards should say "FORMER DEMOCRAT PARTY CANDIDATE" as they would if he were a former Republican candidate.

In the "never happen" category, of course...

I wonder if Edwards pissed off Zero on the campaign trail. Wouldn’t be the first time something like that has happened.

Another taxpayer expenditure. He should be required to reimburse all court costs and the cost of investigation.

Arnold Schwarzenegger should also have to reimburse taxpayers for his malfeasance.

When I look out there at real crooks like Maxine Waters and others, I wonder why it was that John Edwards was singled out to have the book thrown at him.

I look back at how when it was Obama versus Hillary for President, John Edwards put his support behind Obama.

How curious.

It makes me wonder what the Clintons have on Obama or what kind of Nixonian enemies list Obama has and the kinds of trivial offense that get a person put on that list.

Yes. I read this more as a Stalin-lite versus Bukharin-lite show trial more than anything of actual merit. The cannibals punishing one of their own for failure.

Indict the Breck Girl, darn it. Johnny's waiting for his day in court

The Silky Pony can be his own Defense Lawyer since he's so confident(1). And he can channel his dead wife 'from the nether world' as a Defense Witness - that she'd have approved since she was dieing and 'men have their needs'. Johnny Boy can even flirt with the women jurors to win them over(2). After all, all he needs is just one hold out.

Heck, with his track record of winning he'd have the US Attorney crying at his table.

It'd be a no brainer. GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS

(1) 'They say', A lawyer who defends himself has a fool for a client. But with his ego he'd ignore that truism.
(2) Since he'd get a say on who can sit on the jury he can pick all 'the babes' in the pool.

I’ve been waiting for Senator John F* Kerry to step up and testify to his faith and confidence in Edwards’ character given their long personal and professional association (fleecing rich women).

* “F” as in Form 180
