Do trees cause global warming?
By DARREN SAMUELSOHN | 5/25/11 8:33 PM EDT
Looking for a solution to global warming? Maybe start clear-cutting many of the world's forests, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher says.
The chairman of the House Foreign Affairs oversight subcommittee made it clear during a Wednesday hearing that he doesn't believe in man-made global warming.
But if it were true and most of the world's scientists agree it is Rohrabacher said he's hit on an answer by tackling the 80 to 90 percent of heat-trapping greenhouse gas emissions "generated by nature itself": Namely, yank down old trees and get rid of the rotting wood in rainforests.
"Is there some thought being given to subsidizing the clearing of rainforests in order for some countries to eliminate that production of greenhouse gases?" the California Republican asked Todd Stern, the top U.S. climate diplomat and lead witness at the hearing. "Or would people be supportive of cutting down older trees in order to plant younger trees as a means to prevent this disaster from happening?"

wow.
The greenies might need to think on this one for a long time.
“...But if it were true and most of the world’s scientists agree it is...”
Bull Obama!
Most real scientists (e.g., those who are doing something other than “climate change” research) would never sign up to such idiocy.
Politico, you might try hiring someone who actually passed physics 101...if there are any around willing to work for your rag.
OK, so what then? Bury them? Burn them? Don't those activities generate the same byproducts as regular ground rot, although at different rates?
I wish these lib clowns who come up with this nonsense would just hang themselves due to the waste of oxygen, which could harm their mother Gaia.
It sill amazes me that liberals continue to make this claim, without any effort to offer proof of this statement, and in contradiction to the clear evidence that is publicly available.
Build with the material.
I did my part, last year we clear cut quite a few acres.
Ping.
Maybe we could convince the “tree-huggers” to start eating rotten wood. Afterall...aren’t most of them vegans too?
A better idea would be to do more LOGGING in hardwood forests, grab older trees in their prime BEFORE they rot, make good furniture with the wood, and re-plant the area.

The late Pat Paulson once said that the number one cause of forest fires is TREES. Get rid of the trees and no more forest fires. LOL
About as sensible as this theory.
That's true. In fact, the net oxygen production of trees (and any other plants) is exactly zero. Every atom of carbon they extract from the atmosphere (as part of CO2) and incorporate in their structure is returned to the atmosphere as CO2 when the tree rots, is burned, is eaten by termites, or whatever. Growing plants do not make any permanent net addition of oxygen to the atmosphere, or make any permanent net reduction of CO2. It's too bad the greens are ignorant of science.
The only way to use trees to permanently remove CO2 from the atmosphere is to let them grow, turn them into paper, use the paper once (no recycling), and bury the paper where the oxygen in the air can't get at it. But try telling that to the greens whose sacrament is recycling.
Use the trees for building material. Protected from the weather, walls and furniture are not breaking down into CO2.
I'm concerned about Warming -- and what I mean by that is that I'm concerned about CO2
The other night I wanted to cook up a steak. What did I do? Well, naturally, I got out a fire extinguisher and sprayed CO2 all over the beef. I like my steak well done, so I sprayed it for quite a while. It turned out great! Just the way I like it!
Sarcasm aside: Wood has been rotting in forests for quite a while. If the earth is going to heat up based on that, then we have to say that's just nature doing what nature does. Human guilt and concern over this is 100% mis-placed.
Well yes, and for that matter coal is doing the same thing just on a longer time cycle. It’s just returning carbon to the environment after bottling it up for a while.
It’s also true that the Earth has a zero net change in carbon, as a whole. There’s never more or less of any element on earth. It just moves from one place to another.
It’s the termites that are responsible, I tell ya!
CO2-emitting little buggers.
Goodness! We must make sure no tree ever dies a natural death. We must abort them — with chainsaws.
“OK, so what then? Bury them? Burn them?”
Cut them into small pieces, and store them in ZipLok bags!
...But if it were true and most of the worlds scientists agree it is...
