Heroin taco delivery lands ex-deputy in prison

A 20-year veteran of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office was ordered Thursday to serve six years in prison for trying to smuggle heroin to inmates using barbacoa tacos.

State District Judge Sid Harle immediately ordered Robert Falcon, 48, to be put on suicide watch after the former deputy said in court that he planned to kill himself if he was not given probation.

“I hope you have enough guts to go do your time and come back because your family needs you,” Harle said, pointing out that as a veteran jailer, Falcon probably knows how to circumvent the facility's suicide precautions.

Falcon was arrested last June, after another deputy found a note in a jail cell with Falcon's address on it that spelled out a smuggling strategy. A sting was set up in which $50 in marked bills, the taco ingredients and 4 grams of fake heroin were left on his doorstep. The fake drugs were recovered from his lunch bag when he arrived at work, according to court documents.

Falcon initially denied knowing of the drugs. But under prompting from the judge Thursday, he changed his story.

“I take full responsibility,” he said. “I blew it.”

barbacoa, yuck. Nasty enough to mask the heroin?

Apparently not.

6 years is not near enough.
This man betrayed a sacred trust.

How long has he been supplying heroin to inmates.

Smuggling dope to inmates a third degree felony, what a joke.

Leave some rope in his cell, he sold out his fellow workers.

Don’t worry, prisoners!

There are thousands more just like this schmuck in every penal institution in the country - your needs will be met.

The System never sleeps.

The guards went to school and grew up in the same neighborhoods as the Mexican Mafia guys in the jail.

If they don’t cooperate with the gang, they and their family are at risk. If they do, they get paid.

It’s the old “Plata o Plomo?” —Silver or lead?—strategy and it works.
