Lech Walesa, Poland's Solidarity-era legend, ex-president and 1983 Nobel Peace Prize winner said Friday he would not accept an invitation to meet with fellow Nobel winner US President Barack Obama.
"It's difficult to tell journalists what you'd like to say to the president of a superpower. This time I won't tell him, I won't meet him, it doesn't suit me," Walesa told Poland's public broadcaster TVP.
Obama is due to arrive in Poland later Friday after the G8 summit in France.
Walesa was originally scheduled to meet Obama Saturday along with other key figures in Poland's post-1989 transition from communism to democracy.

I recall H.W. presenting Walesa with, I believe, the
Presidential Medal of Freedom.
You could see the pride and joy in Walesa overwhelm him as tears welled in his eyes.
If one could sense what freedom feels like, Walesa exhibited it at that moment.
We as modern Americans have never felt it as Walesa has.
Will we know the feeling when our freedoms are all gone?
Walesa’s warnings for America should be heeded.

God bless him indeed. He did not risk all to suppress communism in his country, merely in order to salute it in ours.

Indeed they did. Read a great book called The Pope, The President and The Prime Minister. Walesa and JPII tie to Poland and the first crack in the Iron Curtain and reagan’s pressing that crack were an integral part of the fall of Communism.
