Posted on 05/27/2011 2:53:54 PM PDT by CharlyFord
As newly minted princess Kate Middleton greeted Michelle Obama in the ornate surroundings of Buckingham Palace Tuesday, it was hard to believe she was wearing a $340 dress from British retailer Reiss a frock any commoner could buy.

Michelle's wearing that dress every where she goes!
Barry, "You paid $2,000 for that dress, wear it!"
Kate could become a crack addict and outclass Moo-chelle.
Same dress?? Again??
I’m having de-ja-vou about that time I had amnesia about 15 minutes ago.
The same article already has a thread going on it, same picture. Up to about 50 replied now, very few of them complimentary of the first lady’s “outfit”.
The Princess, on the other hand, looks stunning. I want that dress.
Following the 3rd paragraph of the article is a link to enter to win the dress. There wasn't a link to win Michelle's dress. I can't imagine why.
I believe the logical explanation is that Kate’s dress used 1 yard of material at $50/yd and Moose’s used 34 yards to cover her “ample” assets.
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Once these grifters get bounced in 2012, Zero’s going to have to dedicate one of the bedrooms in his Chicago Rezko house as a new closet for all the crap that Moochelle has purchased on the government dime.
Then Zer0, (if he’s not in jail for treason) and Wookie will be able to sell off the junk to the Smithsonian, to reside next to Jackie’s outfits, and get the charitable deduction.
Wookie’s cloths in the Smithsonian!! I hadn’t thought of that. Maybe they’ll put Wookie’s cloths in the Museum Of Natural History, next to the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
There are MANY commoners who could not afford to spend $340 on a single item of clothing.
Of course they can. Don't they have credit cards in England? That's what we American commoners use here.
She looks pretty bad no matter what she wears.
Kate is a Rose placed next to a Dandelion.
actually, 3000 dollars is not high for a well fitted dress.
Women’s dresses rarely fit most of us, and unlike Men’s suits, they don’t alter them for free (my mother used to work at home altering dresses for rich ladies).
I mean Obama wears 3000 dollar suits, not those from JC Penney, and the last time Michelle visited the Queen, she wore a JC Crew teeshirt and the Brits made fun of her, and now she wears a good dress and they still make fun of her.
I read that she receives duplicates in various custom-sized designer pieces, thus under-valuating the true cost.
that is one ugly dress M is wearing ..from a second hand shop.
I couldn’t afford J. Crew. I barely afford Penny’s mark down rack IF I shopped for dress clothes there, which I don’t. Because all they have is what Moochelle wears type dresses.
Nor would I at 60+ be caught in one of these OVER priced ‘barely’ dresses. There isn’t $30 worth of material in most of the dresses. Cheapest was $59 and all it was was a tube with elastic at the top to hold it up.
A high priced dress isn’t necessarily a good dress.
Reminded me of Carol Burnett’s spoof of Gone With The Wind.
my point was the same, but the opposite: The british press said that the full price was 2000 (some said 3000 dollars)...but often celebrities will get a discount, or even loaned the dresses.
celebrities rarely wear the same dress twice.
I understand a lot of these dresses end up being returned and then resold.
And when Michele wore a JC Crew teeshirt, the brits also howled about that.
They just hate her.
I like Michele, who is a neighborhood gal who fought her way up in Chicago, but not her stupid husband who is an “empty suit” so to speak.
