It started out as self-defense and ended as premeditated murder.
The events caused him to react. This was not premeditated. Hopefully you will never have this happen to you.
This was definitely premeditated. After he put the crook down, he went outside and emptied his weapon into the air. Then he went back inside, past the unconscious crook, went looking for another weapon, found it, walked back over to the unconscious crook and shot an unarmed, unconscious man five times when he thought no one was looking.
Then he lied about what he did.
