I'm not fully up to speed on Perry (and I know a few years back I did not take kindly to some ankle bitting comments he made about my CinC, GWB). With that said, I've not see anyone say exactly why his is a RINO?

He may be the best, most conservative of the bunch willing to run right now.

You're not exactly looking hard then, because it's been repeated in other threads time and again that have popped up in the past few days.

Take your pick:

Chairman for Al Gore's Texas campaign in 1988

Tried to push a $360 mandatory vaccine for sexually transmitted diseases onto 12 year old girls without discussing it with the legislature or parents. It just so happened that a good friend of Perry's was lobbying on behalf of the manufacturer.

Claims to be pro-life but campaigned hard for the pro-abortion Rudy Giuliani in 2008, going out and telling Americans that Giuliani was the best candidate.

Pushed a program that would have taken over 500,000 acres of land from Texans for a project that would encompass 4,000 miles of roads, rails, and pipelines, and it would be controlled by a foreign company. That company did not have to bid on the initial contracts, and Perry, that company, and Giuliani's lawfirm fought the state Attorney General over releasing details of the agreement out of "competitive" reasons, even though there was no competition. The lobbyist for that company then went to work on Perry's staff, drawing a state salary, helping that foreign company out, then left his state job and again started working as a lobbyist for said company. Rudy Giuilani's lawfirm is in the midst of all of this, making a lot of money.

Made fools out of some Tea Party folks after making them think he supported their secession ideas, then turned around and used the Governor's website to deny he ever supported secession and stated firmly that he would never support secession. While I think secession is silly, I thought it was tacky that he played on these peoples emotions.

Has said Arizona-style legislation is not going to happen in Texas.

Did nothing about the state collecting DNA samples from newborn infants, and storing them at Texas A&M, and the state and A&M allowed those samples to end up in a federal DNA database. Even after it became public, he didn't raise a finger.

Many of the things listed above involved Perry associates, especially people who work on the Governor's staff or campaign and who easily change jobs back to working for companies that lobby the Governor's office/legislature.

It's so many things, that they aren't random mistakes, especially those that have his friends involved. He might be able to be forgiven for one or two things, but over and over he does things that Texans don't like.

When he got %39 of the vote in 2006, you'd think he'd learn to be more conservative, but no, he was still pulling this crap after that.

Him being pro-life and supporting the pro-abortion Giuilani is really a head scratcher.

He is a politician. The Trans Texas corridor and Guardasil for ALL 6th grade girls (just in case they decide to be sexually active) are two reasons why he is considered a RINO.

This is a redistricting year - Texas will be adding some DIM seats because of the RINOs in the house, especially the speaker. He made sure the conservatives who did not support him as speaker would have to run against another conservative or would no longer live in 'their' district.

Texas school districts are letting TEACHERS go, but few administrators. There is a budget shortfall, big time.
