Almost 100 seniors at Concord Academy received their diplomas on Friday after a poignant address by Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. of Harvard University.
Headmaster Richard Hardy said the diploma “connects you to the past and the future” to sustained applause from the audience of faculty and parents seated under a tent on the verdant campus.
“This is your day,” alumna Amy McCarthy of the Board of Trustees told the students. “I am living proof that there is nothing final about today.”

I can never forget how disappointed Professor Gates was to find out that most of his ancestral genetic markers went back to Europe. That’s what happens when one adopts a colour based nationalist rhetoric.
From the description of his speech, this reminds me of the Far Side cartoon where the human is speaking at length and all the dog hears is its name (Ginger, I think).
“Blah blah blah blah-dee blah blah *RACE!!* Blah blah blah blah blah *RACE*!! Blah blah *RACE* blah blah blah *RACE*!! and good luck, Oprah!! I mean, uh, all you seniors who are not my people!”
He should also have told the graduates that thanks to his "watershed" hero Obozo, they won't find any jobs out there in the real world. He and Obozo are a real pair: Clueless and Classless.
I’m not even going to read this article until after I declare that “Gates acted stupidly.”
That was fun! Makes me feel very presidential!
Someone ought to point out to the professor that were it not for an accident of birth, that is, the color of his skin, no one would have ever heard of him. Gates is living proof that for some in America racism is a business.
