Egypt Opens Rafiah Crossing
Arutz Sheva ^ | 29/5/11 | David Lev

Posted on 05/28/2011 5:01:11 PM PDT by Eleutheria5

Hordes of Gaza Arabs rushed through into Sinai Saturday morning, as Egyptian authorities opened the Rafiah crossing, this time on a permanent basis, they said. Egyptian officials said that the crossing operated smoothly on its first day, and Gaza Arabs interviewed by reporters praised the opening, calling Egypt “very brave” for the move.

The crossing is set to be open every day, except Fridays and holidays, between 10 AM and 5 PM. Women, and individuals under age 18 and over age 40 will be permitted to enter Egypt without a specific permit, while others will have to receive a visa. With that, Egypt prevented 23 Gaza Arabs from entering Sinai, as they were on a “no-cross” list, prevented from entering Egypt because of their connections to criminal or terrorist groups.

Two medical teams were stationed at the crossing, one to examine Gaza Arabs who claim to be seeking medical treatment in Israel, and a second to examine others to ensure they are not carrying communicable diseases.

It should be noted that the opening of the Rafiah crossing is a violation of previous Egyptian agreements with Israel. According to the agreements, Egypt is supposed to consult with Israel on the opening of the Rafiah crossing, and European Union officials are supposed to be present to ensure that no weapons or materials that could be used to build bombs and missiles are brought from Sinai into Gaza. In addition, Israeli troops are supposed to be able to observe the activity at the crossing via closed-circuit TV. None of these elements were included in the Egyptian move.

How about Israel now return Ghaza to Egypt, pursuant to Resolution 242, and serve notice that any missiles fired from Ghaza on Israeli territory will be regarded as Egyptian attacks, and Israel will hold Cairo responsible.

At the very least Israel should cut off any utility service to Gaza. Let Egypt play colonial imperialist and see how they like it.

Yeah, I thought the problem before with a three-state solution (Israel, Jordan, Egypt) was that Jordan and Egypt refused it. So, what’s Egypt going to do now?

None of these elements were included in the Egyptian move.

Egypt has broken the peace agreement and now it is Israel's move.

I like the idea of retaking Gaza and forcing the Palestinians to move to Egypt. Level everything in Gaza and mine the area.

This won’t end well.

At the very least, we need a new President.

And we forgave $1bn in debt for Egypt... Why? This is not going to end well for us or Israel.

Our first Muslim President is seeking to do for the entire Middle East what Carter did for Iran.

I read that california had to turn loose up to 43,000 criminals from california.

The results of Egypt opening the border to Palestinians will be about the same.

Boohoo for Egypt. Israel should now recognize its sovereignty over Ghaza, its former territory. UN Resolution 242 requires it. Let’s not dilly dally. They want the Palis. They followed them home. They can keep them, and confiscate their damned missiles.

There’s also the matter of some Israeli citizens being held prisoner in Ghaza. One of them is Gilad Shalit. Egypt must now see to it that they are freed from Egyptian territory, and their kidnappers punished.

You mean all these years the world has been howling about Israel's blockade of Gaza, Egypt had a border too? Who knew? Of course the US and Euros are still responsible for making sure arms aren't imported. Fat chance.

Silly,

Egypt (and every other country on the planet) is ALLOWED to have borders.

Israel is not.
