“And he aint kiddin when he says his legal advice is no good. Its impossible for a lawyer to instantly know the answer to every legal question. I dont know isnt in his reptoire, and Ive heard him give flat out wrong advice on many occasions.”
Well, at least Handle brags that he gives “marginal legal advice!” He also tells callers if they want a real lawyer, they should hire one.
I do enjoy his show, especially the Saturday legal show. He doesn’t pretend to be fair or reasonable or competent, nor does he take himself seriously. I honestly don’t know how he gets away with his politically incorrect banter. I only remember him getting in real trouble for it once, when he picked on figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi. He is constantly putting down this or that ethnic group.
I think it’s especially funny when he tells male callers who are having legal problems with an ex-wife to “just kill her!”.... (and I’m a woman) How he gets away with it, I have noooo idea.
He did become a lot more conservative on gun issues after the Rodney King riots here in LA when he got caught up in it.
Can’t you tell that the simpletons really are going to rely on his advice, disclaimer notwithstanding?
Case in point, self-represented woman in a divorce case on this weekend’s show receives a records subpena from her husband’s lawyers. Handel’s view is that they’re just doing it to give her a hard time- he tells her to call them up and tell them she’s not going to comply.
A subpena is the equivalent of a court order, and you cannot just blow one off. There are procedures to follow if the other side is using discovery to harass you. This woman will follow his advice, and is going to end up being sanctioned by the Court, i.e., fined, for doing so. Yuk, yuk, yuk. All in good fun. I mean, he told her the advice was “marginal,” didn’t he?
