Illinois is on the verge of becoming the first state to create a private college scholarship fund for the children of undocumented immigrants.
The Illinois House, which on Thursday passed a state version of the DREAM Act by a 61-53 vote, sent a bill to Gov. Pat Quinn that would set up a state fund that would route privately funded college scholarships to as many as 95,000 children of undocumented immigrants.
The children would be able to obtain private college scholarships and enroll in state savings programs.
The measure, which Quinn, a Democrat, has said he plans to sign, had already passed the state Senate.
In a statement released after the House passed the measure, Quinn said: "I believe everyone has the right to a first-class education, and the Illinois DREAM Act strengthens Illinois' commitment to ensuring education for all."

I am guessing that scholarship money is more competitive than ever as adults and adolescents seek to continue their education due to poor job market...
They are NOT undocumented. They are the children of Illegal aliens.
Indeed.
Article also does not indicate the immigration status of the students or whether the applicants could be from other states....IL, the new higher ed destination for children (legal?) of “undocumented workers.”
USC 8 Section 1324: Any conduct that facilitates an alien to reside in the United States illegally is “harboring” and carries a five year prison sentence. Under the expanded RICO statutes of 1996, a private citizen can sue any person, city or state in violation of this law in Civil Court.

This bill isn’t only for children of illegal aliens. The bill would help illegal aliens, children who were brought to this country, illegally, by their parents.
I don’t believe that a legislature needs to pass a bill or a governor needs to sign a bill into law in order for a “private scholarship fund” to be set up or function. They exist everywhere. My guess is that the state is going to, at the least, run it and determine who’s an illegal as you have suggested. That being the case, why isn’t holder and the doj going after illinois for stepping foot into a federal arena?

So how long will it be before Chicago looks like Detroit?
It would be great if we could round up all the lunatic lefties and put them all in a couple of states to ruin all by themselves without government assistance. They wouldn’t last a day. But, it would be nice to be clean again.
Didn’t Quinn just raise the top tax rate in IL to 66%? Where are they getting the money for these new programs?
Don’t get too smug there in TN—tho may be conservative controlled now, these types of pieces of legislation can be contagious should libs get a foothold in any of the state branches of government :(
Illinois....I thought they were bankrupt...financially.
What are they doing for American kids?
I mean instead of raising tuition.
Why aren’t they looking out for American kids?
So who is going to file the lawsuit?
They have borrowed several $Billion to keep IL afloat.... Isn’t it nice to have a credit to fund other neat programs?
undocumented immigrants?
No, they are F’n “Illegals” nesting in the U.S.
I suggest we get busy and sue the s*** out of every federal and state entity that does this. Clog up the courts and keep going at it.
Illinois better add a budget item for crime detection, law enforcement and incarceration-—make that double the amt of the scholarship money.
He raised the income tax rate by 66% (from 3% to 5%), not to 66%.
This should increase Illinois illegal population a hundred fold...then we need only put a fence around the entire state.
