Anthony Weiner just sexually harassed a female reporter
Self | 6/1/2011 | Qbert

Posted on 06/01/2011 1:53:02 PM PDT by Qbert

Human Events columnist (and former Deputy Press Secretary at the U.S. Department of State, Communications Director for the House Majority Whip, and Associate Producer at ABC News), Emily Miller attempted to ask Representative Anthony Weiner some questions about the infamous Twitter scandal. Here's what went down:

"I got stuck inches from this disgusting Anthony Weiner as he talked to reporters outside the House chamber. He made over six lewd jokes that were so gross, I was bright red and tried to back away from him."

Some of the representative comments:

I asked Anthony Weiner if there are photos of him half-dressed out there. He said "if you'll forgive me, I was a little stiff yesterday..."

Weiner: "Maybe this will turn out to be the point of al Qaeda's sword..." (then he paused for a laugh line)

Weiner: "Can we all just take a step back, I dont mean that literally, you all can stand as close as you like" (I wanted to crawl away)

Weiner said the photo "might have been manipulated with-- as jon stewart alluded to last night" and then laughed and smirked. I cringed.

Anthony Weiner made about six penis jokes while talking to reporters, standing outside the House floor. He has NO RESPECT for the office.

He’s a public official. Twitter is a public forum. The public can and should hold him accountable for how he behaves in that forum.

I am all for the MSM and the DUers and the Kossacks and O'Reilly and the rest of the wingnuts doing so. Maybe bring on NOW and they can tell the world how sexist it was (it wasn't), or they can bring on a gay group and tell us how unfair to gays it was, or the NAACP can come on and complain about lack of black peckers on Twitter. Don't care.

Why do we have to wrestle the greased pig?

Why do we have to wrestle the greased pig?

The "greased pig" is an elected representative of a self-governing nation, and we are the citizens of that nation. That makes it our job.

Doesn’t something sit wrong with you about this?

This idea that anything anyone does, is fair game - simply because they hold elected office? No matter when it is?

His off time? Weekend? Congress not in session??

Will we have reporters trailing single members of Congress to see who they are boinking and how often?

This really what we want our government to be about?? The coverage of government - reduced to a reality show??

Seriously?????

Isn’t it dumbed down enough already?

“Even (GASP) before 1950. They were called the Roaring 20s for a reason...

...It’s not a church...”

—Ah, predictably trotting out the tired, stereotypical leftist caricature of a Conservative. (How come you didn’t include the “hypocritical married Republican who’s actually gay” in your harangue?)

An aside: Do you really approve of what Mr. Weiner said today??

As was pointed out to you by another poster, most of us here on FR can multi-task. We’re not locked into one issue that consumes our every thought like you appear to be. Go back to your cave, troll!

The left is busy eating its own.

There’s an old saying ... when your enemy is destroying himself, get out of the way.

No reason for our “ME too!” piling on. It make us look cheap. It reduces the commentary and the coverage to reality TV standards. That’s exactly it. And I’m glad I thought of the label.

They are commoditizing and infantilizing coverage of government.

Next you’ll see members of the House walking to the podium wearing Shirts with advertisements on them. $500 on the first Congressman to have “Goldenpalace.com” tattooed on his forehead.

This isn’t rational. This constant voyeuristic obsession. It is not a healthy debate. We cheapen our side, gain nothing (and I say lose ground) and fail to educate anyone on any salient issue.

The proper response is either to shut up and let the left destroy themselves, or to point out that UNLIKE THEM (and how they treated GOP Senators and Congressmen) we do not comment on what people do in their spare time. It’s not our place.

Raise the level of dialogue. Be the respect that you want.

Apparently the part you didn't understand is that he did it in a public forum. It's not when he did it. It's where he did it. If he's that careless with his cell phone and a twitter account there's every reason to be concerned that he might have access to and posession of classified information.

I have no idea what he said, unless you mean the content of the article above. And could care less - unless it start with something like “For the good of the country, and because of my votes as an elected official, I’m offing myself.”

I’d pay attention then.

If the left does stupid, stupid things - how are we helping ourselves by acting like 6 yr olds running to Mommy or the teacher? Let them harm themselves, stay quiet. Reserve judgement. Give them all the benefit that we are owed, but do not get.

People will notice which side acts like the adults. And which side acts like oversexualized, drama queen wannabe reality TV “Stars”.

We aren’t gaining ground by making the crucial middle 20% of the voting base think all we care about is other people’s personal business.

Teach them civics, history, capitalism, true morality, a plan for the future, individualism, hope, achievement.

Stop getting in the gutter just to “one up” their side. If for no other reason, listen to me here: Blatant Self interest: You’ll never win such a media battle because they have a compliant press on their side. Weiner will get 1/10th the coverage of Senator Craig.

This thread and the other 27 just like it did that nicely. I didn't have to. Manufactured outrage, and other insanity. Seriously.

In the 1800s we had fist fights, duels and one cane beating on the floor of the House. So no.... it's not some place full of Paragons. Once upon a time people shot each other over insults. Those the glory days you long for?

You stupid shit. Those glory days you mock, people were debating real issues of real import to mankind. Now all we get is silliness and mockery.

Do I long for days when men would take serious issues seriously? You bet your ass I do.

Have you ever heard of NY-26? Which incompetent Republicans just lost?

Do you know why the special election in NY-26 was held?

Do you know who Yesha Callahan is?

Do you have a clue??

The politics of personal destruction must go forward!

Well, three days later and we have a real reason emerge. Nicely done. But see - for three days or whatever - all we've had are prick jokes and tsk tsk tsking.

And I still do not buy that the internet is some sort of public microphone or public audience forum. He didn't whip it out at the State of the Union.

It's a photo. R rated at worst... Sent from a PRIVATE communications terminal to another one.

Yes, it's open for people to view - but that's also the equivalent of standing on a box, with a high power flashlight and looking in your neighbor's window - and calling the cops at the OUTRAGE you have just seen.

Why are we ceding the idea that everything and anything in anyone's life is a PUBLIC matter? It wasn't this way in the (glorious) 1950s and 1960s.

Even a man's affairs were considered private matters.

I do not like where this leads one bit. First step is to claim that everything a public worker does is EVERYONE'S business - then the next step is the control of what privately employed people can do in their off time.

This is a steep, steep razor sharp slope with a pool of alcohol at the bottom. (And no New England Senators....)

There's about a 0.01% chance that you score "higher" on any measure of liberty than I do. So, calling me a liberal is about as accurate as calling me a moron. There's very little chance you're brighter either.

I might point out that I did mention this would be of concern if he was raping women in a Little Rock hotel. But either your grasp of language or events is lacking.

I know the rest of us are enjoying the wiener jokes. But for Weiner himself to think they are funny while swearing he didn’t send that puny wiener shot to the busty college chick, doesn’t make sense.

I hate to tell you this, but there are sexual harassment laws (and this was all caught on tape, btw). Mr. Weiner just opened up a new big can of worms for himself here. And this is going to look really, really bad in front a jury...
