SOCIAL ISSUES FADE AS REPUBLICANS COURT CONSERVATIVES ZOT!
Reuters ^ | 6/3/11 | Steve Holland

Posted on 06/03/2011 11:49:11 AM PDT by 57 Red States

Christian conservatives looking to put a Republican in the White House heard a lot about the economy on Friday in a sign that their social issues may take a back seat in 2012.

Many political speakers at the Faith and Freedom Coalition, including Republican White House hopefuls, emphasized jobs, debt and deficits...

In contrast to some previous presidential campaigns, social issues like gay marriage and abortion have not been prominent topics for Republicans hopefuls seeking to replace President Barack Obama in next year's election.

The weakness of the economy has triggered a debate within the Republican Party about whether conservatives should call a "truce" on social questions.

The idea is that Republicans would have a better chance at victory in 2012 if they rally around economic issues....

"I don’t think social issues are that important to governments."

Is that a joke. Let's see...

Abortion-Fund it through the taxpayer

Age of consent--Government lowers it

Affirmative action--Government bestows tax breaks

Capital punishment--Government bans/endorses the practice

Disability rights--Government subsidies

Divorce--Government creates No fault madness

Environmentalism---EPA, ROTFLMAO how much does that end up costing the tax payer (Again are you serious?)

Gay rights/Aids funding--Government $$$...

I could go on and on, just laying out all the programs of LBJ's Great Society would destroy your argument... I am just flabbergasted at that post.

Pro-liberty includes limited government, fiscal responsibility, etc. If our government simply adhered to the constitution there would be no big government, no big spending, no big taxing, no out of control national debt. Of course, there’d also be no judicial activism, no abortion, no special rights for homosexuals, no group rights for any group, no socialist programs like social security or medicare, no federal housing, no federal dept of education, no EPA, no fannie mae, no freddie mac, etc, etc, etc, and a hell of a lot less room for corruption.

Zot per request.

You convinced me! Money is the ONLY thing that’s important! Morality means nothing. Finally got my vision clear, thank you so much!

John Adams, as great a man and patriot as he was, was wrong about that statement of his personal opinion.

Keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better.

LOL.

From some President's Farewell Address, which the decay of our society ignoring moral standards along with the corruption in government and awkward foreign policies, has demonstrated the effect of these words and answered those question which were posed:

Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. The mere politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them. A volume could not trace all their connections with private and public felicity. Let it simply be asked: Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths which are the instruments of investigation in courts of justice ? And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.

Continued:

Observe good faith and justice towards all nations; cultivate peace and harmony with all. Religion and morality enjoin this conduct; and can it be, that good policy does not equally enjoin it - It will be worthy of a free, enlightened, and at no distant period, a great nation, to give to mankind the magnanimous and too novel example of a people always guided by an exalted justice and benevolence. Who can doubt that, in the course of time and things, the fruits of such a plan would richly repay any temporary advantages which might be lost by a steady adherence to it ? Can it be that Providence has not connected the permanent felicity of a nation with its virtue ? The experiment, at least, is recommended by every sentiment which ennobles human nature. Alas! is it rendered impossible by its vices?

When looking at the big picture, I don’t think social issues are that important to governments.

You're kidding right? Goobermints love social issues. It's what allows them to bilk trillions from the masses and keep them otherwise occupied while they "play" behind the curtain. How else could we be 14 trillion fiat dollars in debt?!

Drug use tends to wreck a person and it costs you that way. It’s a little bit complex, but ‘no man is an island’.

Sorry, but I’m tired of being asked to support candidates who cannot wait to spit in my face.

I’m a social conservative. Every social conservative I know is also a fiscal conservative. However, many fiscal conservatives say we have to compromise OUR beliefs so that they won’t have to compromise on THEIRS.

To hell with that! Let the damn fiscal conservatives who like gay marriage and abortion compromise THEIR beliefs. If the GOP candidate is another McCain, then to hell with him!

Without a return to morality, the culture of death prevails. Society would continue to crumble, no matter the quality of the economy. A strong, moral country can survive even the worst depressions.

All tyranny comes from a total rejection of God, respect of life as an unalienable right, and morality.
