I’m an English teacher at a high school in Alaska. Many of my students walk into my freshmen English classes unable to read or write beyond a third-grade level. Many of those students arrive without good study skills, without an ability to work productively on assignments, without the self-control needed to focus on their reading, and without even the outline of knowledge about American culture or values.
Of course, our Beneficent Overlords have decided that the real issue is sexual attraction between teenagers.
Closing down the Department of Education is just one necessary step. It would be a great place to start, though.
