This seems to provide the new specifics to date on the potential Palin-Thatcher meeting:

Thanks for the clarification, I knew that she had been Pentecostal, Of course many Pentecostals now describe themselves as evangelical, but they remain close to them in doctrine. There are many evangelic Catholics as well as Lutherans.......

That’s it? That minor piece of diplomatic ass-covering to help her get through a difficult domestic situation where she was trying get a reluctant British public to agree to the siting of US, I repeat US, cruise missiles on British soil and that’s what gets you all bent out of shape about one of the most loyal, pro-American, foreign leaders in history?

Boy oh boy you set your standards high, tell me which foreign leader passes your test of unequivocal, absolute, 110% agreement with every single action ever taken by the United States?

What’s your big deal with Latin America and the so-called allies down there anyway? What exactly have they brought to the table in the history of US relations? Are there Colombian troops patrolling the dusty villages of Helmland, Afghanistan like the Brits are doing right now? Did the Argentines send an armoured brigade to assist George Bush in overthrowing Saddam? Was there a brave last stand by Mexican troops at the Injim River in Korea as they desperately battled alongside the US troops to hold the line in Korea against the Chinese. Did Peruvian troops land at three Normandy beaches in D-Day?

There was precisely zero chance of Argentina falling to the Cubans in 1982, in fact Maggie did the Argentine people a great service by exposing the much vaunted military dictatorship for the ramshackle tin-pot junta it really was thus allowing South America to throw off decades of fascist rule and achieve democracy.

Like I say Ronnie knew who the real friends of America were and when it came to a choice between General Galtieri and his fascist thugs in Buenos Aries and his staunchest democratic ally in the world he knew who to side with and at the time of Grenada he paid no more heed to that silly statement than you should, he knew who his friends would be when he took on the Libyans and other enemies and it wouldn’t be Latin American juntas that’s for sure.

She should swing by to visit Adele before leaving, and give her a hearty “You’re welcome!”

Are you a Brit or “Mick”?

Why are you so Euro-centric? (not saying that in the accusing tone you whip me with ...)

Some don't remember that in the late 70’s/early 80’s it looked very likely that the dominoes in Latin America would go the way of SE Asia. It was nasty business and a lot more serious to American security than anything in the Middle East. In the middle of it, Thatcher decided to take down one of our allies in a Gilbert & Sullivan replay of the Boer War and we gritted our teeth and supported her. She thanked us by publicly dumping on us over Grenada. That really cheesed off conservatives, but no one remembers. But, Jesse Helms always referred to the “Malvinas”.

Hey, I think we've killed this thread, but it's a good topic. Would love to FReepmail with you about this anytime!

;)

That does not surprise me. In fact it quite relieves me too.

My experiences of what passes for mainstream American type preaching churches is that they are - how shall I put this delicately so as not to cause offence - rather heavy on the shepherding aspect of spiritual life. :)

Palin, “Thank you for meeting with me. Now, to whom do I speak regarding getting Sir Winston’s bust back?”

“Are you a Brit or “Mick”?”

Both actually.

Yes it’s an interesting topic, it’s my belief that the US has never got anything worthwhile other than mean minded anti-gringo nonsense from Latin America and if the Americans had left them alone they could have all gone cheerfully to hell in a handbasket if they wanted to and the chances are most of them would have opted for fascism anyway.

The US ultimately was no worse off for Vietnam and Cambodia going communist and left to their own devices Indonesia and Thailand got on with cheerfully massacring communists so I’m not convinced there was any real red scare about South America. Look at Venezuela and Cuba today, useless little banjaxed economies that thrive on sabre rattling against the Yanquis but honestly who gives a fiddler’s fart about them?

Anyway, nice debating with you, keep in touch if you come across anything interesting and we’ll see if we can’t bring you round to seeing Maggie in a more gentle light (and she was by no means perfect in any way).

All the best.

This is terrific!! I just hope Lady Thatcher is up to having visitors. Her health has been failing in recent years...makes me so sad. She is such a grand lady. If only she were still in charge and Ronald Reagan was alive and well....truly a dynamic duo! God bless Lady Thatcher and Sarah Palin!

"...an unveiling of a statue of Reagan on the 4th of July.."

Wouldn't this be a perfect time for Sarah to announce? :)

Krauthammer is smart, Harvard MD, articulate, great writer. Just because he’s for free trade, as you seem to imply, doesn’t mean he’s stupid.

But, on the other hand, I detest his liberal, libertine, elitist, arrogant views toward social conservatives.
