Annoying, but there are valid reasons for it. Mostly due to the possibility of ID theft, etc.
It happens to me from time to time. If I'm talking extemporaneously, my brain is often a few seconds ahead of my mouth and I can trip up on things like subject/verb agreement.
This doesn't disprove the rest of the article, but a single malapropism is hardly an indication of an individual's or society's failure at education. (Of course, in the case of an NBA player, it's not unreasonable to extrapolate to that conclusion from a single data point. )
Baltimore area. I do occasionally have people assume a debit card or work badge is ID (it isn’t...you can pick a debit card odd the ground, and work ID is only OK if It’s Gov’t or Military), but when I ask they usually have a DL.
The only recent one that couldn’t produce a VALID ID was a white Vietnam vet, age 71, who felt it was just for government and corporate tracking that we needed the info.

Perhaps the answer is that those teachers do not know correct grammar and are therefore not really qualified to teach

Sadly, I can take a Sam’s card for a secondary ID. Explain that one! I can take your work ID if it has your picture on it or if it matches your primary ID. I always thought everyone should be required to have ID, but that may be because I was a military brat and we had them from age 10. I am not a conspiracy nut but I am getting a little cautious and a whole lot less trusting in my old age!

Opening a NEW account requires a large mix of various kinds of ID, including your birth certificate. That is part of the Patriot Act.
I moved 6 years ago & had to go thru that.
Continuing to use your current accout which about to have a bank name change isn’t part of the Patriot Act. I still had bank accounts open when the Patriot Act was passed & one bank I dealt with did change name & ownership. I didn’t have to produce anything to continue my banking relationship with them.
Wells Fargo needs to have a serious wedgie over this behavior. They are over-reaching. A customer for over 30 years & you must ID yourself to make a deposit? After reaming them out, I would be banking elsewhere.
BTW- I wonder how Michelle & Barry NObama opened their bank accounts since Barry wouldn’t produce a valid birth certificate to the American public?
I have been called a racist to my face a few times in the last few years...
I have two responses to that accusation, one I recently thought to be appropriate for most ALL situations...
The one Ihad for years,and still rely upon when I am called a racist is:
“Oh, I see, by the way, have you met my wife, the love of my life for 18 years, the former Miss Morales of Pasadena, Texas???”
The second and more recent response is more direct, and one that might escalate the situation, depending upon the intelligence level of the accuser:
“Screw YOU!!! You’re the RACIST for bringing it up!!!”
But in hindsight, you look back at all the playground retorts we have heard when we were younger and the one that sticks out the most is:
“I’m rubber, you’re glue!!!”
