Rep. Anthony Weiner’s wife may not have stood by her man at his press conference on Monday, but actor Matt Damon is sticking by the congressman.
Damon was scheduled to hold a fundraiser for the now scandal-tarred rep on June 20 at the Almond Restaurant in Manhattan’s Flatiron District. According to New York magazine, he has decided to postpone it rather than cancel it.
"It’s going to be postponed now because of all this," Damon told the mag at the Made in NY Awards on Monday night. "Look, I really support his politics …Anybody who fights for the working class and the middle class, I’ll help in any way I can,” continued Damon.
The New York Daily News originally reported the fundraiser and pointed out that the Almond Restaurant is co-owned by the rep’s brother, Jason Weiner. Tickets for the event range from $250 up to a whopping $10,000 for a chance to party privately with Damon and the congressman.

Matt Damon should stick to taking direction from a director. Otherwise, he’s just another moron from hollyweird.

As David Mamet might say, “Matt Damon is just trying to be maintain his bona fides as a loyal member of the liberal Hollywood herd.” The thing is, some actors get to a point in their careers where they don’t have to impress the rest of the herd anymore and can pull their heads out of their asses. Maybe Damon is still unsure of himself. Or, maybe he truly is just a moron.
Be careful of what you wish for Mr. Damon. Weiner may give you more than you can handle.
What a sadly deluded and confused individual Matt is. The only class Weiner fights for is govt and union workers. What about the rest of us who foot all the bills, huh Matt?

Wow! I’m sure the world will base their opinion on words of a second rate movie actor.
Wiener showed EXTREMELY poor judgment, poor character, and a complete lack of integrity. These are not the qualities we expect of the elected officials that we entrust the reins of power to. What’s more, he is an elected congressman sitting in the people’s house so that makes this the people’s business, not just “something between him and his wife”. I would say the same if he were a Republican and I do whenever one of them reveals themselves to be similarly lacking as does most everyone else here at free republic. Bottom line, Wiener has demonstrated that he is unfit for the office he holds and he should take the hint and walk away now before this gets any uglier for him, his party, and our country.
