A Twitter Group Warned About Weiner
The New York Times ^ | June 7, 2011 | Jennifer Preston

Posted on 06/07/2011 9:19:53 PM PDT by Brandonmark

Three months before Representative Anthony D. Weiner sent a photo from his Twitter account to a 21-year-old Washington State college student named Gennette Cordova, a small group of determined, self-described conservatives were warning young women on Twitter, including Ms. Cordova, to be wary of him.

Calling themselves the #bornfreecrew on Twitter, members of the group closely monitored those whom Mr. Weiner was following, taking it upon themselves to contact young women they believed to be “schoolgirls,” and urging them publicly to stay away from him, according to an analysis of posts on Twitter’s public stream.

By early May, members of the group were also speculating that Mr. Weiner would be caught in a sex scandal. The leader, a man who identified himself on Twitter as Dan Wolfe and used the handle @PatriotUSA76, is the same Twitter user who discovered the photograph that Mr. Weiner took of himself and sent to Ms. Cordova. He shared it with his followers and the conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart, who made it public the next day.

As Democrats and Republicans embrace Twitter and other social media tools as a way to interact with their constituents and woo voters, many have discovered a downside to online communication: cyberstalkers, who track and criticize their every move.

But even by the standards of modern politics, Dan Wolfe and other members of the #bornfreecrew watched Mr. Weiner’s account with particular ferocity, and a sharp focus on his interactions with women. In several instances the congressman dropped his online contact with women after they were identified by the crew, suggesting that Mr. Weiner might have been aware of its actions.

Interesting: he knew he was being cyberstalked by these conservatives, as witness the fact that he broke off contact with females when they noticed it. But he still continued his behavior. This either bespeaks such a crazy level of narcissism that he thought he could never get caught, or was willfully self-destructive, courting discovery and ruin.

So its almost as if the NY Times thinks its bad for people to watch what politicians do on the internet

If Einer wanted to couldnt he have joined Mr Wolfe’s group under an assumed name?
If Weiner knew anything about the group it seems he liked playing Russian Roulette

Weiner explained self to Bill Clinton

Rep. Anthony Weiner explained himself and apologized for his conduct to Bill Clinton, who officiated his wedding to wife Huma Abedin, sources familiar with the call said.

Weiner made the call within the past 48 hours. It took place following his emotional press conference Monday in New York City, where he admitted that he had posted a lewd photo of himself to Twitter 10 days earlier, the sources said.

It wasn’t immediately clear what was said on the call, but sources said that the Clintons - who are deeply loyal to Abedin - are distressed by the “sexting” scandal that Weiner immersed his wife in.

Yes - you get the impression this article is really about those crazy cyberstalkers.

Funny thing is....this article will help increase this type of monitoring of politician behavior.

And you can bet big money that despite this current scandal - there is still someone out there dumb enough to believe they won’t get caught.

What was wrong with the old days when you took home a Playboy and if you needed privacy you would go to the bathroom?

A senior Democratic aide said Pelosi’s request “builds on the pressure on him to go.” Separately, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was asked what advice he would give Weiner. “Call somebody else,” Reid replied.

Weiner’s stumble came just as Democrats were beginning to feel that they were regaining their footing after November’s GOP landslide.

“Anyone who is getting in the way of Democrats taking back the majority will be thrown overboard. There is no tolerance for this anymore — especially from Pelosi,” said a Democratic strategist with close ties to House leadership.

Political pressure is a key factor in determining whether a politician will muddle through a scandal or be forced out, said crisis management consultant Eric Dezenhall. Though many politicians think they can talk their way out of a scandal, public apologies at this point do little, he said.

The key for Weiner to hold onto his seat will be his ability to work the “inside game,” Dezenhall said. “His focus now should be his wife, his Democratic colleagues and his constituents.”

Clintons ‘Deeply Unhappy’ With Weiner

One of Mr. Weiner’s most emotional apologies was delivered to former President Bill Clinton[...] The Clintons are deeply unhappy about the situation and with Mr. Weiner, people who had been told of their thinking said. Mr. Clinton declined to comment.

In fact, Weiner is fast running out out friends not just in Congress (where he didn’t have many to begin with), but in his home city, where he was, up until erection night, a front-runner in the upcoming mayoral race. The Times quotes two Weiner raisers—sorry, Weiner fundraisers—who are “dismayed” and “pessimistic”; another, speaking anonymously, was “shocked and furious” because Weiner had, in conversation, proclaimed himself the victim of a “vast right-wing conspiracy.” Just like, heh, the Clintons.

Cyberstalkers or neighborhood watch??? Seems like Weiner was the stalker / perv of the electronic neighborhood.

He's nutty but how would you like to be married to Huma? Hillary is always out of town, pointlessly globe trotting, and Huma has to go too as her #1 aid
This drove Weenee more nuts. He's Jewish and she is Muslim, what a farce. They probably just share living quarters
