Sort of gives the old saying "will the last one out please turn off the lights" a new connotation. Unfortunately, we'll still be here -- sitting in the dark. Ayn Rand wrote a book called "Return of the Primitive". We're living it.

The costs of complying with the regulations will result in an increase in electricity prices of 10 to 35 percent and cost 600 jobs, AEP said. The money quote.

Another “It's time for pitchforks and torches” moment.
We have an unaccountable government agency making policy decisions that are destroying our economy.
Where are our elected reps to stop this madness?

Look on the bright side. The people that are gonna lose their jobs can “invest” in new “green” initiatives. They can help save the world now.

On the very day that the American bonds are downgraded it is announced that utility plants in America must be shut down pursuant to Obama's regulations by the EPA which the Congress specifically refused to do directly by any law passed by the people's representatives.
How many new bonds will have to be floated to replace these plants?

AEPs not the only power company that is planning on shutting down coal units to meet these EPA regs. Any coal plant that doesn't have state-of-the-art precipitators is going to be shut down.
The EPA is out-of-control.

Who cares? We have "green energy" that will power our electric cars!
Obama Math: 6,000 lost coal megawatts - 1,000 solar megawatts (@ 7x the cost of coal) = 5000 lost megawatts
A rough scaling up the Nellis solar facility to a 1,000 megawatts at $100 million per 15 megwatts would mean that a comparable solar plant would cost $6.6 billion to build. But wait, there's more. Coal-fired plants operate at about 90 percent capacity, so a truly fair comparison would take into account that a solar plant generally operates at 30 percent of its rated capacity. That would mean that a solar photovoltaic plant using the technologies available at Nellis would actually cost nearly $20 billion to build in order to produce the same amount of power that a conventional coal-fired plant would.

4700 net megawatts of coal generation to be retired. That will result in hundreds of associated job losses: plant operators, coal transport, coal mining, etc.
Welcome to Obamaville!
