'On the Beach, I Bring von Mises' "If I'm in, I'll be all in," says Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, artfully dodging my question of whether she's running for president. Given that she just hired campaign strategist Ed Rollins, whose past clients include Ross Perot and Mike Huckabee, rumors abound. "We're getting close," she says, "and if I do run, like all my races, I will work like a maniac." That's pretty much how she does everything, and it helps explain how the relatively junior congresswoman has become a tea party superstarand uniquely adept at driving liberals bonkers. After spending a good part of two days with her in Washington as she scurries from one appointment to another, I have no doubt that Ms. Bachmann will announce her presidential bid soon. And it would be a mistake to count her out: She's defied the prognosticators in nearly every race she's run since thrashing an 18-year incumbent in the Minnesota Senate by 20 points in 2000. Says Iowa Congressman Steve King, "No one has electrified Iowa crowds like Michelle has." Ms. Bachmann is best known for her conservative activism on issues like abortion, but what I want to talk about today is economics. When I ask who she reads on the subject, she responds that she admires the late Milton Friedman as well as Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams. "I'm also an Art Laffer fiendwe're very close," she adds. "And [Ludwig] von Mises. I love von Mises," getting excited and rattling off some of his classics like "Human Action" and "Bureaucracy." "When I go on vacation and I lay on the beach, I bring von Mises."

I read this over coffee this morning. Nice piece. I learned things about the candidate I didn’t know.
Me too, and while brining that twerp Ed Rollins onboard almost lost me, I’m still paying my Michele Bachmann Admiration Society dues.
Quote from MB in this article:
“I like Sarah Palin and I respect her.” As for whether Mr. Pawlenty was a good governor, “I really don’t want to comment.”
LOL!
She's a different bird.
There should be a constitutional amendment making that a prerequisite for being president.
She is not representative of the masses. It would be a long haul.
She has made herself damaged goods by hiring Rollins. She still has much she can do to serve our country, but it won’t be as president.IMHO
Anyone got the link to Palin’s interview on economics?

I din’t know which interview you are talking about, but try this for starters.
http://www.therightscoop.com/palin-not-raising-debt-limit-doesnt-mean-economic-collapse/
“So it appears that Palin is correct and that Ryan got this one wrong, that we dont have to increase the debt limit. I will say that the leadership vacuum in Washington does give me pause though, wondering if the Administration would do all that they can to avoid a default. Considering that one point, Paul Ryan could be correct. Id love to hear him expound on that.”
MB is and remains a stalking horse for the big govt socialist, myth/mittens.
Very good article. I saw her at a Tea Party event and I was truly impressed.
I like Palin, but I think she may have some other project in mind. Bachmann also has a really commanding presence. You don’t have to like her to sit up and pay attention to what she’s saying.
I’ll be at the RightOnline 2011 conference next Saturday. Michele Bachmann will be speaking Saturday morning. I think the crowd reaction there will be a good indication whether Ed Rollins and his comments really hurt her or not. Hugh Hewitt says Palin and Bachmann fans are one in the same, but I’m not sure that’s 100% the case.
Who is “representative of the masses” among any presidential candidates? Bambi, with his foreign and wealthy leftist background, was certainly not representative of any masses I can think of.
Her family seems to have been a normal, nice middle class family, she’s very intelligent, educated and competent.
People like Romney - born to wealth, and arguably one of our wealthiest candidates ever - seem to be accepted as “one of the people,” for reasons that I have never understood. Yet candidates who have a modest background but speak beyond what is apparently their leftist-alloted role are trashed.
I can tell you the local radio conservative hosts here don’t much care for Pawlenty. Jason Lewis was never a big fan. Sue Jeffers, a local talk radio host, ran for governor and challenged Pawlenty. She says he’s not a conservative at all.
facebook?
The Patriot Act was something that got out of control even as it was aborning. Bush had one idea for it (basically, although he could never say it, I think it was meant to target radical Islam in this country), but it clearly morphed into something else since the GOP didn’t control Congress.
So it’s a difficult call, particularly when we now have a Muslim president who is doing anything he can to promote Islam.
I suspect there would be changes, but I’m not sure this is something she really needs to get into right now.
