The whole "ie" vs. "ei" thing in German names is an eternal confusion to English speakers, as attested by my own family name.

We all know Anthony is confused-—that goes without saying.

How did he ever get a Catholic first name, anyway? That is also “different.”

I have always figured Anthony didn’t want to be called “Mr. Whiner”(too close to the truth), so he entered politics saying “Weener.”(even closer to the truth, it turns out)

He probably wishes he had chosen “Whiner” at this point.
