The statewide teachers' union, a major financial backer of Democratic candidates, saw its rolls swell by about a thousand members this spring, when Scott and the Legislature were cutting school budgets and ramming through controversial teacher merit pay legislation. Florida's next piece of legislation needs to copy the Wisconsin legislation barring payroll deduction of union dues from public employees (make the unions bill members directly, and try to collect), and giving members a yearly vote to de-certify the union.
