Rep Allen West Violates Federal Flag Code On Diving Expedition - (BARF Alert!)
BrowardPalmBeach.com ^ | June 14, 2011 | Matthew Hendley

Posted on 06/14/2011 12:38:55 PM PDT by Beaten Valve

There's nothing really bad to say about Rep. Allen West going diving off the coast of Deerfield Beach with a bunch of military veterans -- except for the fact that he violated U.S. federal law in the process and provided a pictorial of himself doing so.

During his diving session Sunday, Lt. Col. West was photographed holding an American flag underwater, on top of an artificial reef -- which would be a violation of the United States Code.

Let us flip to Title 4, Chapter 1, Section 8, Subsection B of the United States Code:

(b) The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.

That's from Chapter 1 of the United States Code, also known as the United States Flag Code.

Judging from the existence of pictures of West holding a flag under water, that would seem to qualify as a violation of code.

The Flag Code constitutes federal law, although there is no penalty for breaking this law.

We'll let you off with a warning, West.

Has anyone read anything—anything—from Matthew Hendley concerning the numerous untold amount of times this lamearse, idiot-ridden administration has violated Federal or International law? Hell, has anyone seen anything from this flaming libtard idiot concerning Weiner? =.=

I understand that the Flag Code is a series of suggestions, and not Federal law.

The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.

I see. So, following their reading of the law, it is illegal to move a flag from the wall of the second floor of a building to the first floor, since its new location was physically beneath it.

However, the water in this case is the “atmosphere” just as oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, etc. make up the air when on the earth. The substance beneath the flag is the bottom of the ocean. Sorry, DUmmies, West is NOT breaking the law, but if this is the best you got, he’s doing alright.

Burning the flag is OK, but letting it touch water is a crime.

Your elitist double standard in favor of your political stripe Mr. Hendley is exactly why we don’t want you and your kind in charge of this country. There will be two sets of rules: one for you guys and one for anyone who’s not ‘your people’.

Thanks for being a case study and flagship example Mr. Hendley.

Oh, for goodness sake, it's about letting a flag droop and touch water beneath it. Not about carrying it underwater to plant on a reef. Get real, journos.

Idiots. No violation of law. If you were flying your flag on your dock, and it was hanging in such a way as to be touching the water, that is what they are talking about.

Flag laws in general are silly anyway.

It is not touching the corral ground underneath it? I did not see the touch water part.

The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.

Well, in response one could say that the flag wasn't touching anything beneath it. It was in the water which would mean it's relationship to that element would be the same as it's relationship to the air when above ground.

And, given the fact this jerk acknowledges there aren't any punishments for violation (if indeed it was), then no fault, no foul. Only the foul odor coming from this jerk.

The article concludes;

“But let it be known that you’re joining the ranks of at least one other politician by violating the code:”
Beneath that sentence is a pic of Palin!

Good grief. Obviously, this guy has never worn a T-shirt with a US flag on it. Of course not. He doesn’t respect the flag. He only wants to use it to score political points. That makes him a drag on humanity for sure.

The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.

This just means that you should not display it so that it hangs in a puddle of water or such. If the flag can't get wet, are you supposed to bring it in every time it rains ?????

How stupid !

I guess the best is, they haven’t asked for his resignation. I’ll give them a day or two first.
